Dubai Police Discusses the Use of Artificial Intelligence to Combat Human Trafficking
In a significant step towards enhancing national efforts to combat human trafficking, Dubai Police discussed the use of artificial intelligence as an effective tool in addressing this serious crime. This discussion took place as part of the celebrations for World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, where the police called for special attention to be directed towards the use of advanced technology in uncovering these criminal activities. Through these initiatives, Dubai Police aims to strengthen the legal and humanitarian framework for protecting the most vulnerable groups.
Special Seminar to Address Challenges
The General Command of Dubai Police celebrated World Day Against Trafficking in Persons by organizing a specialized seminar in collaboration with the Human Trafficking Prevention Committee at the Ministry of Interior. The seminar was held under the slogan “Together Against Human Trafficking: Strict Legislation, Smart Technologies, and a Safe Work Environment Free from Exploitation” at the Dubai Police Officers Club, and was inaugurated by Major General Dr. Saleh Abdullah Murad, Acting Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Excellence and Leadership.
During the seminar, Major General Murad emphasized that human trafficking is one of the most dangerous crimes threatening human societies, noting that the state has prioritized this issue. He stressed the importance of legislative initiatives that protect the rights of victims, referencing the launch of Law No. 24 for Combating Human Trafficking in 2023.
Technology as an Ally in Fighting Crime
Dr. Mohannad Faiz Al-Dweikat, the regional coordinator for anti-human trafficking programs at the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, highlighted the importance of using artificial intelligence to combat human trafficking. He described this crime as “the new face of slavery,” explaining that the use of modern technology is a necessary step in addressing the increasing challenges posed by organized crime.
Dr. Al-Dweikat explained that, through partnerships with the Human Rights Department of Dubai Police, a diploma program specializing in anti-human trafficking has been developed, contributing to the acquisition of essential knowledge to combat these criminal activities in the Arab world.
The Role of Dubai Police in Protecting Victims
Dubai Police places special emphasis on providing support mechanisms for victims while ensuring their privacy is maintained. They launched a victim support service for human trafficking through their smart app, which helps victims obtain legal, psychological, and social support quickly and safely. This innovation represents a smart response that combats crime and enhances the protection of victims’ rights.
Lieutenant Colonel Abdullah Al-Hafiti, a member of the Human Trafficking Prevention Committee, also discussed the role of artificial intelligence in identifying potential victims and uncovering crime patterns, which contributes to tracking criminal activities more effectively.
In the coming years, it appears that Dubai Police will continue to drive innovation through the use of artificial intelligence to combat human trafficking, positioning itself as a leader in this field at the regional level.
This collaboration between government agencies and the international community underscores the importance of collective action to address these painful realities, while ongoing efforts continue to strengthen the laws and policies that protect society.
