Dubai Electricity Boosts Capacity at Mohammed bin Rashid Solar Park

Dubai Electricity Increases the Production Capacity of Mohammed bin Rashid Solar Park by 60%

In a move that reflects its ongoing commitment to renewable energy, the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) announced a 60% increase in the production capacity of the Mohammed bin Rashid Solar Park. This increase is part of the UAE’s efforts to achieve its ambitious clean energy goals and reflects the global shift towards renewable energy sources. A report released by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) highlights the achievements made worldwide in this field, supporting Dubai’s future vision.

Global Achievements in Renewable Energy

A joint report from the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and the Conference of the Parties (COP30) in Brazil revealed that the world added 582 gigawatts of renewable energy in 2024, including 452 gigawatts from solar energy. These impressive figures are not just individual accomplishments; they represent a recognition of global efforts to transform energy concepts and enhance sustainability. The report indicates that the world needs to continue efforts to increase capacity by 1,122 gigawatts annually to meet global climate goals.

The UAE’s Leadership in Clean Energy

DEWA announced that the country continues to enhance its leadership position through massive projects that serve as models for innovation in clean energy. The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, launched by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum in 2012, is considered a cornerstone in the UAE’s journey toward a sustainable energy future. The current production capacity of the park is 3,860 megawatts, and it is expected to exceed 8,000 megawatts by 2030, up from the initially planned 5,000 megawatts.

Energy Strategy Goals in Dubai

His Excellency Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of DEWA, stated that the park is a global model for sustainable infrastructure projects, aiming to enhance Dubai’s leadership in the green economy. He also noted that the clean energy produced by DEWA has exceeded 21.5% and is expected to reach 36% by 2030, contributing to a reduction in carbon emissions by more than 8.5 million tons annually.

This park supports the UAE’s ambitious strategies to achieve climate neutrality by 2050 by providing 100% of energy from clean sources. These initiatives strengthen the UAE and Dubai’s position as a leading destination in the renewable energy sector.
