In a significant move reflecting the values of unity and heritage, the UAE Government’s annual meetings recently concluded in our beloved capital, unveiling a range of national programs and initiatives aimed at solidifying the country’s identity. A centerpiece of these initiatives is the launch of the “National Identity Strategy,” developed through collaboration between the Ministry of Culture and the National Projects Office. This strategy, announced by His Excellency Sheikh Salem bin Khalid Al Qasimi, Minister of Culture, during a session titled “Heritage and Trust,” is designed to enhance and showcase the essence of the Emirati national identity.
The vision of the National Identity Strategy is centered around cultivating a robust Emirati identity that embodies the aspirations of the founding fathers and is embraced by the community as a pathway to stability and prosperity. The strategy aims to integrate the national identity into various sectors, ensuring its presence in the everyday behaviors and practices of society. By fostering a sense of belonging and pride in the Emirati national identity, it seeks to bolster family and community cohesion.
His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, shared his reflections on social media platform X, stating, “Between the past, present, and future, the Emirati identity remains steadfast in its authenticity and its renewed spirit.” He further emphasized, “Heritage is a trust.” Similarly, Her Highness Sheikha Maryam bint Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Court for National Projects, described the national identity as a source of pride that we carry in our hearts, representing the true spirit of the Emirati individual and their deep-rooted connection to their homeland and values.
Sheikha Maryam noted that the Emirati national identity is not a fleeting project but rather a lifelong journey expressed through language, gestures, and behaviors that form the foundation of unity and solidarity in our society. This holistic human system brings together all residents under a shared umbrella of values established by the nation—values of respect, coexistence, and belonging to a singular homeland.
In underscoring the strategy’s importance, Sheikh Salem Al Qasimi stated, “The National Identity Strategy reflects the UAE’s commitment to the vision of its leadership in cultivating individuals who are confident in their roots while maintaining their authenticity.” This strategy represents a transformative initiative that embodies the inspirational Emirati model, focused on nurturing an Emirati character deeply rooted in tradition yet open to cultural and global exchanges. The ultimate goal is to build an inclusive future where the foundations of cohesion and prosperity thrive through a shared identity.
