In a significant move to elevate health education in the country, the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research has announced the formation of a specialized team to develop a national roadmap for health education programs. This initiative is part of a broader strategy aimed at enhancing various vital sectors and aligning educational efforts with national needs. The newly created team will also form three additional working groups targeting essential fields such as legal competencies, drone technology skills, and enhancing national capabilities in energy, renewable energy, and water.
During a meeting of the Advisory Committee for Higher Education and Future Skills at Mohammed bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences, Dr. Abdulrahman Al Awar, the Minister of Human Resources and Emiratisation and the acting Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, presided over the discussions. The meeting featured participation from committee members representing higher education institutions and key economic sectors within the nation.
The Ministry’s press statement highlighted that with this announcement, the total number of working groups under the Advisory Committee now stands at eight. Initially, the committee established five groups comprising distinguished leaders from academia and industry, focusing on health sciences education and workforce, the integration of artificial intelligence in higher education, partnerships between economic sectors and educational institutions, future jobs and skills in the labor market, and the supply and demand of the workforce in general and higher education.
The committee discussed several initiatives and projects led by these working groups, prominently featuring the development of an ethical framework for the responsible use of AI in higher education. The discussions also included initiatives aimed at embedding future skills into educational programs to meet the growing demands of the labor market. Crucially, the efforts to develop a national roadmap for health education encompass curriculum improvements, academic program enhancements, and the integration of innovative technologies to improve healthcare services.
Dr. Abdulrahman Al Awar emphasized the commitment to making the higher education system in the country more coherent and connected to national priorities and future labor market needs. He stated, “We aim for universities and research centers to be active partners in driving sustainable development.” The Advisory Committee for Higher Education and Future Skills provides a model for planning and collaborative efforts that unite experts, academics, and economic leaders to transform ideas into actionable initiatives that prepare the workforce for the future.
The establishment of these new working groups marks a crucial step in the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research’s efforts to create a comprehensive national network connecting universities with research centers and the industrial sector. This strategic alignment not only supports the Emirati government’s future directions but also enhances the nation’s competitiveness on a global scale.
Specialized forums will be organized for each working group, inviting stakeholders to participate. These forums will showcase initiatives and achievements, facilitated by the exchange of experiences and knowledge among the education, scientific research, business, and economic sectors, further reinforcing the scope of the national roadmap for health education.
