The Arab Child Parliament, based at its permanent headquarters in Sharjah, continued to activate the work of its standing committees by holding meetings of the Activities Committee and the Child Rights Committee, alongside a meeting of the editorial board of Al-Barlamani Al-Sagheer (“The Little Parliamentarian”). The sessions were held on the sidelines of the fourth sitting of the Parliament’s fourth term, reflecting its commitment to strengthening institutional parliamentary work and enabling Arab children to contribute to discussions on issues affecting their present and future, while also helping shape initiatives and ideas that serve Arab childhood.
Activities Committee reshuffles its leadership
The Activities Committee saw the election of a new leadership team, with child Ryan Al Shreideh from the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan elected as chairman and child Osama Maryam from the Syrian Arab Republic elected as vice-chairman. The committee then continued discussions on its plan and the most prominent programmes and activities designed to develop the capabilities of Parliament members and enhance their participation in initiatives and events that reflect its mission of preparing a generation that is aware and equipped with the tools of dialogue and parliamentary work.
New issue of “The Little Parliamentarian” launched
In parallel, the editorial board of Al-Barlamani Al-Sagheer held its regular meeting and reviewed the contents of the magazine’s 15th issue, which has been launched as a new media edition continuing to document the activities of the Arab Child Parliament, highlight the creativity of its members, and embed a culture of parliamentary media directed at children. The publication further strengthens the magazine’s role as a platform expressing the views and aspirations of Arab children.
Child Rights Committee discusses key concerns
The Child Rights Committee also met under the chairmanship of member Rubaia Ibrahim Abu Rumman, with the participation of committee members, to discuss a number of issues related to Arab child rights. The meeting formed part of the committee’s remit to follow up matters linked to childhood, raise awareness of children’s rights, and develop proposals that contribute to a safe and stimulating environment for children’s growth and active participation in their communities.
Commitment to institutional parliamentary work
His Excellency Ayman Othman Al Barout, Secretary-General of the Arab Child Parliament, said the regular meetings of the standing committees represent a fundamental pillar in the Parliament’s journey towards entrenching institutional work and developing its members’ skills in dialogue, participation and initiative-making. He noted that the specialised committees and the editorial board of the magazine provide a practical space through which children gain parliamentary and media experience, translating their ideas into initiatives and projects that serve Arab childhood.
He added that the Arab Child Parliament, with the support of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, and with Sharjah hosting its permanent headquarters, continues to fulfil its mission of preparing aware Arab child leaders who are able to express children’s issues and contribute to building a brighter future through an integrated parliamentary environment that brings together dialogue, training, empowerment and creativity.
