The inaugural Dubai Financial Sector Future Week, organised by the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC), continued its series of events yesterday. A highlight of the week was the ‘Dubai FinTech Summit’, which showcased the centre’s advancements in innovation and new research focused on the future of the financial sector. Other discussions addressed critical themes, including climate transition financing, long-term capital investments, and alternative investment strategies.
Dubai’s Growing Innovation Landscape
On the second day of the summit, DIFC’s CEO, Arif Amiri, announced that the centre now houses over 2,000 companies engaged in artificial intelligence, fintech, and innovation. This growth underscores the development of the DIFC ecosystem and the comprehensive services it offers to support these sectors across the region.
The Role of FinTech in Financial Services Transformation
Amiri remarked, “FinTech has played a pivotal role in transforming financial services, and it continues to be a fundamental pillar in enhancing the future of the financial sector. Today, the thriving DIFC ecosystem includes more than 2,000 companies specialising in artificial intelligence, fintech, and innovation, reflecting Dubai’s ambition to solidify its position as a leading hub for these sectors.”
Support for Global Expansion
He further stated, “Our ambition extends beyond attracting promising companies; we aim to provide them with the right environment, relationships, and resources that enable them to expand globally. We are currently working to establish the necessary components for the next phase of growth, ensuring that Dubai retains its position as the world’s best city for fintech.”
Launch of the ‘Digital Economy 2.0’ Report
Reinforcing its role in shaping the future of the financial sector, DIFC launched the ‘Digital Economy 2.0’ report in collaboration with its research partner, Asia House. The report, presented by Asia House’s CEO, Michael Lawrence—who holds an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) honour—examined the critical role of capital, capabilities, and foresight regulatory frameworks in enabling the next stage of digital economic growth. It also highlighted Dubai’s innovation-driven digital environment as a robust platform for the development and scaling of new financial technologies.
Predictions for the Fintech Sector
According to the report, global spending on technology is expected to reach $5.6 trillion by 2026, with artificial intelligence projected to contribute $22.3 trillion to the global economy by 2030. Additionally, the report anticipates that the global fintech market’s value will soar to $1.5 trillion by 2030, emphasising the substantial opportunities emerging across digital finance, AI-driven services, and advanced financial infrastructure.
