Zayed International Airport Projects 33 Million Annual Passengers by 2025

In 2025, Abu Dhabi International Airport is set to welcome an astonishing 33 million passengers, marking a historic milestone for the entity overseeing the capital’s five airports. This surge underscores the airport’s dynamic growth trajectory and reflects the remarkable expansion of international travel options available to passengers, positioning Abu Dhabi International Airport as a leading hub in the aviation sector.

Unprecedented Growth in Passenger Traffic

Over the past three years, Abu Dhabi’s airports have experienced a remarkable doubling of passenger traffic, with Abu Dhabi International Airport leading the charge as one of the fastest-growing major airports in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. The airport has not only surpassed its previous records but has also solidified its role as a key player in the global aviation landscape.

Expansion of International Destinations

A significant contributor to these impressive figures is the ongoing expansion of international destinations. Airlines have added new routes and increased the frequency of flights on high-demand lines. In 2025, Abu Dhabi International Airport welcomed 39 new routes and onboarded seven new airlines, greatly enhancing its connectivity. This growth has included services to major global hubs, such as Addis Ababa, Atlanta, and Hong Kong, as well as emerging markets like Berlin, Hanoi, Pune, and Warsaw.

Operational Excellence and Performance Metrics

In its second full year of operation, Abu Dhabi International Airport captured a staggering 98% of the total passenger traffic and 73% of aircraft movements, achieving 8.59 million passengers in the fourth quarter alone, reflecting a yearly growth rate of 13.8%. Days where passenger numbers exceed 100,000 serve as a key indicator of operational efficiency and highlight the airport’s capability as a preferred hub for direct and connecting travel.

Looking Ahead: Ongoing Commitment to Growth

Ahmed Jumaa Al Shamisi, interim CEO of Abu Dhabi Airports, expressed pride in reaching the 33 million passenger milestone, stating, “This achievement reflects our operational readiness to meet the increasing global demand.” The airport aims to maintain this momentum through operational excellence and continuous investments in capacity and logistics. Notably, Abu Dhabi’s airports also celebrated various accomplishments in 2025, including the 19th consecutive quarter of double-digit passenger growth and accolades such as the “Best Airport in Shopping Experience” at the Frontier Awards.

Moreover, the overall cargo volumes remained impressive, with approximately 770,000 tons handled across the five airports. This figure represents a notable annual increase of 12%, highlighting the growing significance of Abu Dhabi’s trade routes.
