In a significant move towards sustainable energy, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan witnessed the inauguration of the Noor Bukhara project, representing the country’s first integrated solar energy and battery storage system developed by Abu Dhabi‘s Masdar. This landmark initiative not only highlights Uzbekistan’s commitment to renewable energy but also underscores the growing collaboration between Uzbekistan and the UAE in advancing clean energy solutions that are vital for both economic growth and environmental sustainability.
Launch of the Noor Bukhara Project
President Mirziyoyev attended the official inauguration of the Noor Bukhara project, celebrated as Uzbekistan’s first comprehensive solar energy facility paired with battery storage capabilities. Developed by the globally recognized clean energy leader Masdar, this project marks a pivotal milestone in Uzbekistan’s energy sector. During the inauguration ceremony in Tashkent, the President emphasized the importance of transitioning towards renewable energy sources, reflecting the nation’s strategic goals.
Groundbreaking for the Gozar Project
In addition to the Noor Bukhara project, President Mirziyoyev was present for the groundbreaking ceremony of the Gozar photovoltaic solar project. This facility is designed to produce an impressive 300 megawatts of solar energy, complemented by a battery storage system capable of handling 75 megawatt-hours. These initiatives are part of a broader plan to enhance Uzbekistan’s energy infrastructure, paving the way for a greener future.
Strategic Partnerships and Future Projects
During the event, notable figures such as Deputy Prime Minister Jamshid Khodjayev and Minister of Energy and Infrastructure Suhail Mohamed Faris Al Mazrouei engaged in discussions regarding investment agreements and network connectivity. They also addressed the critical deployment of battery storage systems for the Zafarshan project, which stands as the largest independent energy storage project in the country. The future development of a wind power station with a capacity of 1,000 megawatts in Navoi was also announced, marking the first stage of a larger developmental program targeting a total capacity of 2,000 megawatts.
Commitment to Renewable Energy Development
Minister Al Mazrouei reiterated the UAE’s role as a key partner in nurturing Uzbekistan’s energy sector, particularly in renewable energy and strategic projects that foster sustainable growth. He remarked on the significant impact of collaborations between the two nations, which have led to high-quality projects that enhance energy security and promote a reliable transition to cleaner sources. “With Masdar’s projects growing rapidly in Central Asia, we continue to support Uzbekistan’s efforts to develop a more efficient and sustainable energy infrastructure,” he stated.
Uzbekistan’s Minister of Energy, Jurabek Mirzamamdov, also highlighted the recent advancements in Uzbek-UAE relations, noting that the partnership reached a strategic level during President Mirziyoyev’s visit in January. He acknowledged Masdar’s role as the first contributor to the development of green energy sources in Uzbekistan, where the company successfully launched the country’s first photovoltaic solar plant in 2021. The enthusiasm surrounding these projects reveals not just a commitment to immediate energy needs but also an investment in the ecological and economic well-being of future generations.
