UAE Pledges $51.7 Billion to Dominate Clean Energy Sector

The UAE is cementing its global leadership in clean energy with investments amounting to 190 billion dirhams, showcasing its commitment to innovative strategies and sustainable energy solutions. As the nation celebrates International Clean Energy Day, it continues to set an inspiring example for countries around the world striving toward a sustainable future. This article explores how the UAE’s extensive initiatives, strategic partnerships, and substantial investments are redefining the landscape of clean energy.

Remarkable Increases in Production Capacity and Investments

The UAE’s dedication to accelerating climate action is evident in its exceptional achievements. From 2022 to 2025, the country recorded a remarkable 117% increase in renewable energy capacity, surpassing 7.7 gigawatts and aiming for an ambitious target of 23 gigawatts by 2031. This success is complemented by a massive national investment of 190 billion dirhams in this vital sector, enhancing the country’s goal to achieve a 35% share of electricity from clean sources by 2031.

Through its National Program for Demand Side Management, launched in 2020, the UAE successfully reduced carbon emissions by 14.8 million tons and achieved financial savings exceeding two billion dollars over five years. The establishment of the Global Energy Efficiency Coalition marks its first international platform aimed at doubling global energy efficiency improvement rates to 4% per year until 2030.

Achievements of National Companies and Strategic Partnerships

Masdar, a key player in the UAE’s renewable landscape, has announced a growth in its project portfolio, increasing its production capacity to 65 gigawatts as of January, up from 51 gigawatts in 2025.

Local manufacturing has also seen remarkable developments. Global South Utilities partnered with China’s Weihen to produce battery storage systems in Abu Dhabi, strengthening supply chains directed towards the Global South.

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) continues to implement its Carbon Neutrality Strategy 2050. The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park stands out as the largest single-site solar park globally, currently boasting a capacity of 3,860 megawatts with a target to exceed 8,000 megawatts by 2030.

Pioneering Technical and Community Projects

The UAE’s national efforts include innovative projects such as:

  • Dubai Solar Initiative: This program empowers homeowners and buildings to produce their own energy and connect it to the grid.
  • Green Hydrogen: The commencement of the first project of its kind in the region at the Mohammed bin Rashid Solar Park is a landmark achievement.
  • Hydro Power in Hatta: This 250-megawatt facility is the first in the Gulf region to generate electricity through pumped storage.

Dr. Amina bint Abdullah Al Khatib, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, has highlighted the UAE’s commitment to creating an integrated energy system that combines innovation with economic growth while safeguarding the environment. Moreover, the nation’s successful hosting of major solar power stations, including the Al Dhafra Solar Plant, and its status as the first Arab country to operate a nuclear power plant underscore its progressive agenda alongside ambitious plans for expanding green hydrogen production.
