In its third report on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices, the city reaffirmed its commitment to developing sustainable infrastructure that contributes to combating climate change and enhancing quality of life. This report embodies Masdar City’s ongoing efforts to achieve the UAE’s ambitions of reaching climate neutrality by 2050, making it a prominent model for urban cities worldwide.
Integrated Systems and Sustainable Innovation
Ahmed Bahaghoom, CEO of Masdar City, stated that the city represents a practical model of effective interconnection between sustainability and innovation. He said, “We are committed to promoting an integrated system that fosters innovation, provides opportunities, and creates a tangible impact.” This approach establishes new standards for how cities can contribute to creating sustainable economic, social, and environmental value.
Talent Development and Diversity Enhancement
Masdar City considers its community elements and human resources to be the core of its success. The city achieved a localization rate of 54.7% and female representation of 31% in 2024, with a notable increase in training hours. These steps reflect the city’s commitment to developing local talent and encouraging diversity and inclusion, contributing to enhanced sustainable innovation capabilities.
Entrepreneurship and Sustainable Growth
Entrepreneurship programs, particularly those led by women, continue to open new doors to opportunities. The free zone in Masdar City has supported and fostered the growth of hundreds of small and medium-sized enterprises, demonstrating a conducive environment for investment and growth. A group of visionary local institutions, such as M42 and the data center “Khazna AUH6,” has collaborated to provide innovative solutions in various fields, ranging from precision medicine to sustainable education.
Community Engagement and Local Events
Masdar City continues to enhance the sense of belonging by organizing over 300 cultural and health events. By hosting international delegations and organizing festivals, this engagement reinforces the city’s role as a vibrant hub that brings together business and culture. Events such as the “Masdar Park Festival” and the opening of “The Hub by Social” highlight the city’s commitment to offering innovative solutions for sustainable mobility and clean energy.
Achieving Environmental Goals
Masdar City has made significant strides in its commitment to environmental sustainability, recording a 22.7% reduction in energy intensity. Through its various initiatives, the city has avoided 5,518 tons of carbon dioxide emissions, equivalent to removing 1,285 cars from the roads for an entire year. It has also contributed to resource conservation, achieving a 13.1% reduction in potable water use. These achievements reflect Masdar City’s steadfast ambition to continue innovating and excelling in sustainable urban development.
Masdar City is preparing to face future challenges through advanced development projects such as “MC2” and “The Link,” which enhance quality of life and biodiversity. These projects embody the city’s vision for urban sustainability, establishing it as a global reference point in sustainable urban development.
