In a shocking turn of events regarding the theft of Syrian artist Muna Waseef’s home, new details have emerged from the Syrian Ministry of Interior, revealing the intricate methods employed by the criminals. The principal suspect and his wife have been apprehended, providing crucial insights into the case that shocked the community.
The investigations indicated that the burglary was executed without any forced entry, as the suspects utilized a copy of the keys to gain access. The suspect’s confessions have led to the discovery of some of the stolen funds, which were reportedly used to purchase real estate properties and an extravagant “Range Rover.” Authorities have since been able to recover a portion of the stolen items.
Muna Waseef recounted the initial moments of discovering the theft in a video shared by the Syrian Ministry of Interior. She revealed that she had been out of the country working on an artistic project in Lebanon. Upon her return to Damascus, she was met with the alarming sight of her belongings scattered throughout her home, immediately leading her to realize she had fallen victim to a burglary. Upon checking her valuables, she discovered around $185,000 in cash, along with 100,000 UAE dirhams and a significant amount of gold jewelry, prompting the commencement of a comprehensive investigation.
Investigators learned that the main suspect and his spouse had skillfully facilitated their entry into Waseef’s residence using duplicate keys, allowing them to carry out the theft discreetly. During questioning, the accused also admitted to attempting to erase any evidence of the crime by wiping fingerprints with oil and cleaning products. However, these efforts proved futile as forensic teams were able to locate vital physical evidence, including cigarette butts that played a crucial role in identifying the culprits.
In a detailed interrogation, the suspect confessed to stealing substantial sums from the safe, acknowledging that he had used a portion of the pilfered money to invest in various properties in the outskirts of Damascus, as well as acquiring the luxurious “Range Rover.” The Syrian Ministry of Interior confirmed that scientific analysis of the forensic evidence was pivotal in unraveling the circumstances surrounding the crime, indicating that the investigation is ongoing, with legal proceedings against the suspects set to follow.
