In a significant move towards uplifting disadvantaged families, the Sharjah Charity Association has successfully executed 804 income-generating projects during the first half of the current year, with an investment of 1.3 million dirhams. This initiative is part of their broader programme aimed at enhancing self-sufficiency and empowering families to achieve sustainable livelihoods.
Empowerment Before Aid
According to Khalid Hassan Al Ali, Director of the Projects and External Aid Administration at the association, their developmental approach prioritises empowerment over mere assistance. He stated, “We believe that providing job and production opportunities for beneficiaries creates a sustainable developmental impact, enabling them to meet their living necessities with dignity and reducing their reliance on continuous aid.”
Diverse Projects to Meet Varied Needs
The range of productive projects launched in the first half of this year reflects the diverse professions pursued by beneficiaries and their specific needs. Initiatives included the provision of fishing boats for those engaged in the fishing industry, outfitting retail shops for fruit and clothing sales, and equipping tailors with sewing machines. Additionally, motorcycles were provided for individuals offering goods transport services, alongside necessary tools for various trades.

However, the association’s support extends beyond supplying production tools. They are dedicated to enhancing beneficiaries’ skills through training courses and development programmes, which are vital for equipping individuals to manage their small enterprises effectively, thereby ensuring their sustainability and success. Al Ali emphasised that these projects are a substantial investment in the potential of beneficiaries, transforming them from aid recipients into productive members of society capable of securing a stable income for themselves and their families.
