Jordan and UAE Urge Full Implementation of Gaza Agreement

In a concerted effort to enforce peace in the region, Jordan and the UAE are calling for the full implementation of the “Gaza Agreement.” Recent discussions between Jordan and the UAE underscore the importance of adhering to the ceasefire agreement established on October 10. As both nations focus on enhancing bilateral relations, they remain committed to ensuring humanitarian aid reaches those in need in Gaza, marking a crucial step toward stability.

Key Meeting between Jordanian and Emirati Officials

On Thursday evening, Jordan’s Foreign Minister, Ayman Safadi, met with his Emirati counterpart, Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, in Abu Dhabi. The meeting emphasized the necessity of upholding the ceasefire agreement in Gaza, reaffirming the call for the full implementation of the “Gaza Agreement.” The ministers discussed regional developments and collaborated on measures to strengthen the ties between their countries.

Humanitarian Concerns and Ongoing Challenges

Despite the ceasefire coming into effect on October 10, the humanitarian situation in Gaza remains dire. Restrictions imposed by Israel on aid transport continue to hinder the delivery of essential supplies. The ministers expressed the urgent need for “sufficient and sustainable humanitarian aid” to ensure that the basic needs of the Gazan population are met as they move toward the second phase of the agreement.

The Human Cost of Conflict in Gaza

The ongoing conflict has resulted in catastrophic losses, with over 70,000 fatalities and more than 171,000 injuries reported, primarily affecting women and children. These figures paint a grim picture of the humanitarian crisis triggered by the violence that erupted on October 8, 2023. The destruction in Gaza is estimated to require around $70 billion for reconstruction, according to United Nations assessments.

Broader Implications for the Region

The discussions between Safadi and bin Zayed also extended to the conditions in the West Bank, highlighting the urgency of curbing escalating violence and addressing Israel’s “illegal actions” in the occupied territories. Concurrent with the ongoing issues in Gaza, the conflict has also seen the tragic deaths of at least 1,092 Palestinians in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, as a result of actions carried out by Israeli forces and settlers.

Jordan and the UAE have reiterated their commitment to enforcing peace and stability in the region. As they call for the full implementation of the “Gaza Agreement,” their collaborative efforts signify a vital step forward amid the ongoing humanitarian crisis.
