Groundbreaking Initiative Delivers Desalinated Water from Egypt to Gaza

In a significant humanitarian step, the “Brave Knight 3” operation announced the launch of a project to supply desalinated water from Egypt to southern Gaza. This project is the largest of its kind and is part of urgent efforts to alleviate the water crisis facing the region. The pipeline, which extends for six and a half kilometers, is expected to improve the lives of approximately 600,000 people suffering from water shortages, reflecting the commitment of both countries to enhance the water security of the people of Gaza.

Desalinated Water Project: Details and Dimensions

A press conference was held at the Coastal Municipal Water Utility headquarters in Deir al-Balah, where the announcement was made for the construction of a water pipeline with a diameter of 315 mm, connecting the Egyptian desalination plant to the displacement area between Khan Younis and Rafah. This project is part of the “Brave Knight 3” operation’s efforts to improve the water situation after more than 80% of water facilities were destroyed due to ongoing crises.

Project Goals and Its Impact on the Community

The project aims to provide each individual with 15 liters of desalinated water daily. Sharif al-Nayrab, the media spokesperson for the “Brave Knight 3” operation, emphasized that this project is not merely an emergency response but reflects the UAE’s steadfast approach to supporting the Palestinian people in the face of harsh conditions.

The UAE’s Role in Enhancing Basic Services

Engineer Omar Shatat, Deputy Director of the Coastal Municipal Water Utility, expressed his appreciation for the UAE’s role as a primary supporter of Gaza. He noted that ongoing support includes the establishment of desalination plants, supplying municipalities with water tankers, and drilling wells. This project is considered a vital step toward providing drinking water to the most affected areas, affirming that the UAE has not ceased its efforts since the onset of the crisis.

The Project’s Effects on Population Resilience

Khalil Abu Shamala, a representative of civil society in Gaza, confirmed that this project enhances the population’s ability to withstand and confront increasing challenges. It embodies the Arab and Emirati support and reflects hope for improving the living conditions of citizens in the besieged sector.

Hope remains pinned on the “Brave Knight 3” project to end the water crisis in Gaza and provide effective humanitarian support that enhances regional stability and ensures the safety of its residents.
