The United Arab Emirates is currently witnessing a rapid expansion in regulatory and professional requirements, underscoring the significance of bridging the gap between academic curricula and the skills desired by employers as graduates enter the job market. According to Amer Al Hababi, Chairman of Vertex Holding, this development is crucial for the region.

Al Hababi asserts that enhancing experiential learning through structured training, practical projects, and direct collaboration between companies and universities can significantly improve graduates’ readiness for employment in the private sector. He emphasises that this is especially vital in fields such as accounting, auditing, taxation, compliance, and risk management.

On the occasion of his joining the Board of Influential Business Leaders at the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) for the 2026-2027 term, Al Hababi stated, “The region has spent many years building business education institutions that meet international standards. The next phase must see greater participation in discussions that contribute to the development of these standards, while providing a vision that reflects the needs of the rapidly changing economies and markets in the region.”

The board aims to strengthen the connection between the business community and business schools by communicating the needs of employers to academic institutions, encompassing emerging skills, competency gaps, experiential learning, practical training, and partnerships between companies and universities.

This engagement coincides with an evolving landscape in business schools as they align their programmes more closely with market transformations, particularly the growing importance of technical skills, governance, and the responsible use of artificial intelligence.

A report released by AACSB in July 2026 indicates that business schools are transitioning from limited artificial intelligence practices to its institutional integration within education, research, and management, with an increasing focus on governance, responsible AI, and human-centred leadership.

Professor Mohamed Madi, Dean of the College of Business and Economics at the United Arab Emirates University, mentioned that Al Hababi’s participation allows for the introduction of a regional perspective in international discussions surrounding talent, leadership, innovation, and the skills required for the future of work.

According to the published roster, the board includes representatives from various companies and international organisations. Al Hababi’s contribution stems from his position as Chairman of Vertex Holding and his expertise in business, governance, and finance. He aims to present the employers’ perspective on the skills needed by graduates, expand the scope of practical training and live projects, and enhance collaboration between companies and business schools in the region.
