Dubai Police Celebrates World Day Against Human Trafficking with Specialized Seminar

Under the slogan “Together Against Human Trafficking: Strict Legislation, Smart Technologies, and a Safe Work Environment Free from Exploitation,” the General Command of Dubai Police celebrated World Day Against Human Trafficking by organizing a specialized seminar. The event highlighted the UAE’s efforts in combating this heinous crime, reflecting the community’s commitment to addressing the challenges associated with human trafficking through effective legislation and modern technologies.

Smart Legislation Spotlight

During the seminar, stakeholders discussed the UAE’s specialized law against human trafficking, which includes severe penalties for those involved in these crimes. The discussions focused on how artificial intelligence and big data technologies can enhance national efforts to identify perpetrators and detect patterns associated with these transnational crimes. Efforts by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratization to prevent the exploitation of domestic workers were also reviewed, reinforcing the country’s capacity to comprehensively address the issue of human trafficking.

Speech by Major General Saleh Abdullah Murad

The seminar opened with a speech by Major General Dr. Saleh Abdullah Murad, who noted that “human trafficking is one of the most dangerous crimes threatening communities and violating humanitarian, religious, and ethical values.” He emphasized the importance of cooperation among all institutions to combat this phenomenon, especially with the advent of modern technologies and organized crime methods. He added, “Those observing the country’s efforts in combating human trafficking crimes can sense the seriousness of the measures taken at all levels.”

Support for Victims and Commitment to Human Rights

As most victims of human trafficking are women and children, Dubai Police has paid special attention to providing support mechanisms that respect the privacy of these vulnerable groups. Initiatives include the launch of a victim support service within its smart application, which provides victims with quick and secure access to legal, psychological, and social support. This system aims to enhance the protection of victims’ rights and ensure effective, integrated responses to this humanitarian issue.

The UAE’s Efforts in Combating Human Trafficking

Dr. Muhannad Faiz Al-Dweikat, the regional coordinator for the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, affirmed the importance of the UAE’s efforts in combating human trafficking. He praised the UAE’s ability to make significant progress in this area through its pioneering legislation and international partnerships. Retired Colonel Dr. Faisal Al-Banna also stated that the UAE serves as a role model in its determination to combat human trafficking, highlighting the importance of collective action in this regard.

This seminar represents an additional step in the efforts of Dubai Police and other state institutions to combat human trafficking, reflecting the UAE’s commitment to protecting human rights and enhancing social security for all.
