Dubai Launches Ambitious 1000-Meter Bridge Connecting Major Highways

The Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai is celebrating the opening of a new bridge stretching 1,000 meters, connecting Sheikh Zayed Road and Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Road. This initiative is part of the development project for the central roundabout and aims to improve traffic flow and enhance road capacity to accommodate the increasing traffic in the city. This bridge, which features two lanes and a capacity of 3,000 vehicles per hour, represents a significant achievement in facilitating mobility in Dubai.

Improving Traffic Flow

The new bridge enhances traffic flow from Sheikh Zayed Road to Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Road, significantly reducing travel time from six minutes to just one minute. It is also expected to alleviate traffic congestion at the central roundabout, reflecting the authority’s commitment to improving road quality and providing a safe traffic environment.

The Importance of the Central Roundabout Development Project

In a statement from the Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority, Mattar Al Tayer, it was emphasized that the development of the central roundabout is one of the most important infrastructure projects in Dubai. He noted that the project connects Sheikh Zayed Road with several other vital streets, enhancing traffic efficiency in the area. The project has recorded over 60% completion so far, with the opening of two additional bridges anticipated next October.

Aiming for Future Goals

Upon project completion, the expected reduction in delay at the intersection is from 12 minutes to 90 seconds. The bridge will facilitate smooth traffic between several key destinations, such as the Dubai World Trade Centre and the Dubai International Financial Centre, as well as other vital commercial and residential areas. The project is estimated to benefit over half a million residents and visitors, highlighting the bridge’s significance in easing daily movement in Dubai.

Future Plans

The central roundabout development project continues with the construction of five bridges totaling 5,000 meters, providing free-flowing traffic in multiple directions. Alongside the recently opened bridge, two previous two-lane bridges were inaugurated last February, enhancing the road’s capacity to accommodate increasing traffic. Plans also include transforming the current central roundabout into a signal-controlled surface intersection to improve the overall commuting experience.

This project represents another step toward achieving Dubai’s future aspirations in infrastructure development, aligning with the emirate’s vision of becoming a leading destination in urban mobility.
