In a significant move to enhance its presence in the Middle East cruise market, cruise giant Celestyal has formalized a three-year tourism agreement with the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi). This partnership is set to promote Abu Dhabi as a premier destination for the cruise line’s guests, emphasizing both cultural immersion and tourism growth in the emirate.
The multi-year collaboration, announced during the Seatrade Global maritime event in Miami, aims to deepen Celestyal’s connection to the region, according to a company media release. This agreement marks a pivotal step in expanding the cruise operator’s influence and offerings in the thriving Abu Dhabi tourism sector.
Celestyal Strengthens UAE Connections
Celestyal is preparing to return to the region with two ships scheduled for December this year. The cruises will feature three weekly calls to Abu Dhabi throughout the winter season, running until March 2026. This resurgence is expected to boost local tourism and engage more travelers with the captivating offerings of the emirate.
Lee Haslett, the chief commercial officer at Celestyal, expressed excitement over the partnership, stating, “It is a privilege to sign the three-year agreement with DCT Abu Dhabi.” He elaborated on the allure of the emirate, saying, “Abu Dhabi is a diverse and stunning destination, which is why we’re excited to not only homeport there, but also include three weekly calls to the city throughout the winter season for the next three years.”
Haslett emphasized the importance of collaborating closely with travel agents to showcase the breadth of experiences available in the region. He remarked, “The cruise industry in the Arabian Gulf is on track to welcome record passenger numbers in the coming years, and after a strong first season in the region, we’re excited to bring the very best of this special part of the world to our guests for many years to come.”
Excursions Highlighting Abu Dhabi’s Charms
Celestyal’s shore excursion program boasts an impressive lineup of nine diverse Abu Dhabi experiences. These excursions provide guests with a taste of the emirate’s rich culture and attractions, including half-day tours that showcase top highlights, culinary explorations, theme park adventures, and luxurious beach days. In addition, guests will have the opportunity to embark on classic desert safaris to explore the stunning landscapes.
In 2022, Celestyal introduced a unique seven-day ‘Desert Days’ itinerary aboard the Celestyal Journey. This cruise departed from Doha, calling at notable destinations such as Bahrain, Dubai, Khasab, Sir Bani Yas Island, and, of course, Abu Dhabi. The inaugural season proved so successful that it will extend through a minimum of three additional winter seasons, highlighting the cruise line’s commitment to deepening its ties to the appealing offerings of Abu Dhabi.
