Scheduled to open in 2030, this distinguished landmark is set to become one of the largest centers specializing in the arts and music in the UAE. The project embodies a forward-looking vision aimed at enhancing the city’s artistic and cultural landscape by offering a diverse range of events and artistic performances that meet the needs and aspirations of both the local community and international visitors.
A Major Project Attracting Artists and Creatives

In this context, advanced facilities were announced, including a multifunctional main hall with a capacity of over 2,000 seats, an open amphitheater seating 3,500, a theater studio with 400 seats, and a jazz club accommodating 250 guests. The total capacity of the project will exceed 6,000 seats, making it an ideal venue for hosting the finest global artistic productions.
The Importance of Cultural Infrastructure
His Highness Sheikh Khalid bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan emphasized during his review of the architectural plans for “Dar Al-Funun” that investment in cultural infrastructure is an essential part of Abu Dhabi’s developmental vision. This vision highlights the importance of the arts in improving quality of life and building bridges of dialogue between cultures and peoples, contributing to sustainable development and a knowledge-based economy.
An Opportunity for Local and International Talents
“Dar Al-Funun Abu Dhabi” is set to be a permanent center for hosting a wide range of artistic performances, including opera, ballet, and theater. It will also contribute to establishing international partnerships for artist residencies, opening new avenues for attracting renowned artists and global ensembles. This will enable Emirati talents to shine on the global arts stage.
Innovative Design for a Visionary Future
The “Dar Al-Funun Abu Dhabi” project was designed by the late world-renowned architect Frank Gehry, known for his distinctive creative style. His modern traditional design enhances the cultural experience in the emirate. Discussions regarding the opening of the nearby Guggenheim Museum in Abu Dhabi also reflect the same creative spirit aligned with Abu Dhabi’s cultural vision.
The “Dar Al-Funun” project is not just a new building in Abu Dhabi; it is a beacon for the artistic and cultural future that will reflect the identity of the UAE and enhance its status as a global creative destination.
