UAE Warns of the Consequences of Iranian Attacks on Global Health, Environment, and Food
During the One Health Global Summit held in Lyon, France, the United Arab Emirates issued a strong warning about the harmful effects of Iranian attacks on global health, the environment, and food security. This warning was articulated in a speech by the Minister of Health and Community Protection, Ahmed Ali Al-Sayegh, who highlighted the increasing risks that destabilize public health and the environment as a result of these attacks. The UAE’s calls emphasize the urgent need to operate under the “One Health” framework to protect the region’s populations and vital resources.
Impact of Attacks on Public Health and the Environment
During the summit, Al-Sayegh expressed deep concern over the human and environmental losses resulting from the attacks launched by Iran, which involved the use of more than 2,700 drones and missiles. These unjustifiable actions have not only affected the UAE but have also impacted other Gulf countries, complicating the health and environmental situations in the region. He explained that these attacks cause significant damage to civilian infrastructure and have serious repercussions on the ecosystems that communities rely upon.
Interconnection of Health and Environmental Systems
Al-Sayegh emphasized that human, animal, and environmental health are closely interconnected, and any aggression against one of these systems can lead to catastrophic outcomes for the others. “These developments confirm the deep interconnection between human health, vital infrastructure, the environment, and global supply chains,” he added, noting that a more integrated preventive approach is essential for enhancing health security.
Call for Global Cooperation
During the summit, the UAE urged the unification of global efforts to address the environmental and health risks arising from security pressures. Al-Sayegh stressed the importance of expanding the “One Health” concept to include environmental risks such as air pollution, which is a major contributor to chronic diseases. He expressed the UAE’s commitment to strengthening its comprehensive approach focused on preventing health and environmental risks.
Strengthening International Links
Al-Sayegh held bilateral consultations with several countries, including Indonesia, Italy, and the Republic of Korea, aimed at enhancing cooperation in the health sector. He also expressed appreciation to French President Emmanuel Macron for his leadership in promoting international cooperation in this field. He reaffirmed the UAE’s commitment to supporting the “One Health and Beyond” declaration to ensure practical solutions that integrate health, environmental, and food priorities.
The UAE continues to advocate for unity and cooperation among nations to protect human health and the environment, which is a necessary step in light of the current challenges facing the region.
