As part of the UAE’s efforts to enhance its global standing in innovation and intellectual property, the 66th session of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) member states meetings was held in Geneva. During this event, the progress made by the UAE in the field of innovation and the development of its intellectual property system was highlighted, reflecting the country’s commitment to supporting a culture of creativity and invention.
The UAE’s Commitment to Innovation and Intellectual Property
Dr. Issa Al Bastaki, President of the Emirates Scientific Club, noted that the UAE continues to strengthen its position in the fields of innovation and intellectual property. He explained that the club actively contributes to this direction through quality initiatives and educational programs targeting inventors, researchers, and students in schools and universities. The club’s participation in the WIPO meetings was an opportunity to showcase the country’s achievements in promoting a culture of intellectual property and innovation.
Remarkable Successes Supported by the Government
Al Bastaki indicated that 2024 marks a significant milestone for the Emirates Scientific Club, as the achievement of patents has been adopted as a primary strategic goal. This approach has led to the registration of eighteen intellectual properties in the past two years, reflecting the national commitment to a knowledge-based economy and sustainable development. This success was evident in the high-profile attendance at the WIPO meetings, which saw around 1,600 delegates from various countries, underscoring the importance of this event.
Advanced Strategies for the Future of Innovation
With the increasing number of intellectual property applications worldwide, where more than forty applications have been submitted every minute since 2018, most applications focus on advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, quantum computing, and the Internet of Things. In this regard, Al Bastaki emphasized that the Emirates Scientific Club seeks to enhance its partnership with WIPO and actively contribute to global innovation through pioneering initiatives.
The UAE’s Role in International Dialogue on Innovation
Al Bastaki concluded by emphasizing the importance of the Emirates Scientific Club’s role in participating in national dialogues organized by the Ministry of Economy on innovation and intellectual property. The UAE’s efforts in this field contribute to empowering youth and stimulating scientific communities, ensuring its recognition as one of the leading countries in the world of innovation and intellectual property.
