Upon its arrival in Albania, the Emirates Rescue Team has conducted 27 specialized aerial sorties utilizing two Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters. These operations have included an impressive 680 precise water dropping missions on fire hotspots, deploying over 1,261 tons of water. This substantial effort has played a pivotal role in containing the fires and minimizing their spread.
Despite facing significant challenges such as soaring temperatures and the rugged geography of the affected areas, the team has maintained a high level of efficiency. Their operations are carried out in close collaboration with the relevant Albanian authorities, ensuring a coordinated approach to tackle the crisis effectively.
The team commenced its mission in regions like the forests of Gramsh, Balç, and the coastal area of Vlorë. This initiative aligns with the directives from His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, to support Albania in controlling the forest fires. The commitment of the Emirates Rescue Team highlights the UAE’s dedication to international humanitarian efforts.
Ongoing coordination meetings between the Emirati team and Albanian officials are crucial for devising the necessary plans that will expedite firefighting operations. Continuous on-site monitoring is also being implemented to oversee areas where fires have been extinguished, preventing any re-emergence of flames. The sustained cooperation between the Emirates Rescue Team and local authorities stands as a testament to a united response against the unfolding environmental disaster in Albania.
