The statement, delivered by Ambassador Jamal Al Musharrekh, the UAE’s permanent representative to the UN and other international organizations, highlighted the nation’s unwavering focus on promoting human rights alongside efforts to establish a more equitable society.
During his address, Ambassador Al Musharrekh articulated the UAE’s ongoing advancements in human rights, emphasizing the importance of empowering women and enhancing their leadership roles. “The UAE continues to strengthen human rights by ensuring the full protection of women’s and girls’ rights and fostering gender equality,” he stated. This commitment not only reflects the country’s priorities but also sets a clear path toward its anticipated membership in the Human Rights Council for the years 2028-2030.
The ambassador further elaborated on the collective responsibility of safeguarding human rights, calling for multilateral action grounded in dialogue and mutual respect. He underscored the necessity of addressing extremist ideologies and hate speech, particularly amid the escalation of global crises. “Protecting human rights is a shared responsibility,” he remarked, highlighting the UAE’s proactive stance in regional and international disputes.
In addressing pressing humanitarian issues, the UAE has also continued its support for the Palestinian people in Gaza. Al Musharrekh noted, “My country announced an additional $1.2 billion in aid for Gaza during the peace council,” reaffirming the UAE’s position as a leading contributor to humanitarian assistance in the region.
Moreover, the UAE has been at the forefront of active humanitarian diplomacy, facilitating successful prisoner exchanges between Russia and Ukraine. This initiative showcases the country’s role as a trusted mediator, reinforcing its reputation in the international arena. As the world confronts the humanitarian disaster stemming from the civil war in Sudan, Ambassador Al Musharrekh called attention to false accusations levied against the UAE and UN mechanisms involved in crisis resolution. He reiterated the need for transparent dialogue and effective measures to address these challenges while maintaining a focus on promoting human rights for all.
