During the “AI Tour” event held in Dubai, Smith noted that 59.4% of the UAE’s population uses artificial intelligence in their daily lives, making it the most advanced country in this field. Smith added, “We live in a time full of challenges, yet the UAE represents a beacon of hope,” pointing out that the world is filled with opportunities despite current difficulties. While many countries are grappling with tensions and conflicts, the UAE stands out as a symbol of hope and progress.
Global Gaps in AI Adoption
Despite the notable growth in the use of artificial intelligence, Smith highlighted the global disparities in its adoption. There are regions in the world where the rate of technology use does not exceed 10%. He emphasized the importance of addressing these gaps, warning that technology can deepen existing inequalities, as seen in the electricity sector. Approximately 700 million people worldwide lack access to electricity, hindering the effective use of artificial intelligence.
Microsoft’s Investment in the Future of AI in the UAE
As part of its support for the concept of artificial intelligence in the UAE, Microsoft announced a significant investment of $15.2 billion from 2023 to 2029. This investment will enhance AI infrastructure and employ local talent, with Microsoft estimating that $7.3 billion will be spent by the end of December.
Smith pledged that the investment is not only about financial figures but is based on a comprehensive strategy that offers three main elements: technology, talent, and trust. Microsoft has demonstrated its commitment to supporting local competencies through training programs aimed at qualifying one million individuals by the end of 2027.
