The recent diplomatic tensions between the UAE and Iran have escalated, leading the Emirates to summon the Iranian ambassador, Rezah Amiri, and deliver a formal protest regarding recent Iranian terrorist attacks. This incident underscores the growing unease over Iran’s actions, prompting a strong response from the UAE concerning the increasing threats to its sovereignty.
Formal Summons and Strong Protests
The UAE’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned Iranian Ambassador Rezah Amiri and delivered a strongly worded note of protest, expressing the country’s condemnation of the Iranian terrorist attacks. It emphasized that targeting its territory constitutes a blatant violation of its sovereignty and a threat to national security, as well as a clear infringement of all international treaties, resolutions, and norms.
Rejection of Iranian Justifications
Khalifa Shaheen Al Marar, Minister of State, expressed the UAE’s unequivocal rejection of any justifications or excuses put forth by the Iranian government during the ambassador’s summons. The Iranian government provided justifications for its aggressive escalation targeting civilian sites, but the UAE firmly rejected these excuses. The attacks, which included targeting residential areas, airports, ports, and service facilities, endangered unarmed civilians. This situation is considered a dangerous and irresponsible escalation by Iran, especially given the UAE’s clear stance that it will not allow its territory to be used in any military operation against Iran.
Violation of International Norms
The Minister of State emphasized that these attacks contradict the principles of good neighborliness and the United Nations Charter. The Iranian actions undermine the de-escalation path and peaceful solutions that the UAE has adopted toward Iran. The minister warned that these attacks could have serious repercussions on bilateral relations, which would directly affect all political, economic, and commercial levels.
Demand for Immediate Action
The UAE reiterated its demand for respect for its sovereignty and an immediate and unconditional cessation of these attacks. It also stressed that the country reserves the right to respond fully within its legal rights. The UAE continues to assert that peaceful dialogue is the best path forward, but it will not hesitate to defend the stability and security of its territory against any threats.
