UAE Condemns Iranian Aggression During Human Rights Council Meeting

The United Arab Emirates firmly asserts its legitimate right to respond to Iranian aggressions as it addresses the United Nations Human Rights Council. This statement comes amid rising tensions and targeted attacks that threaten its sovereignty. Throughout this article, we will delve into the UAE’s condemnation of Iranian actions, emphasizing its commitment to upholding international law and maintaining regional stability.

UAE’s Stance on Iranian Attacks

The UAE has unequivocally declared its full and legitimate right to retaliate against Iranian assaults under international law, safeguarding its sovereignty and territorial integrity. This strong position was articulated by Sheikha Maitha Al Nahyan, the UAE’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva, during a session at the Human Rights Council.

The Impact of Continued Attacks

Sheikha Maitha highlighted that since February 28, the UAE has faced Iranian missile and drone attacks targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure within its borders. These relentless aggressions have resulted in the tragic loss of three innocent lives and injuries to 58 others. Such blatant acts of hostility not only undermine the sovereignty of the UAE but also represent a severe violation of international law and the United Nations Charter.

Rejection of Conflict Escalation

The UAE has reiterated its unequivocal rejection of using its territory as a platform for settling scores or escalating conflicts. It condemned, in the strongest terms, the attacks directed against the Gulf Cooperation Council countries and other Arab nations in the region, expressing its solidarity with neighboring states.

A Call for Dialogue

In her statement, Sheikha Maitha urged all parties to exercise restraint and opt for dialogue and diplomatic solutions as the most effective means to ensure regional security. She emphasized that the UAE, home to over 200 nationalities—including many represented at the Human Rights Council—views this aggression not solely as an attack on its territory but as an affront to international principles that must be addressed accordingly.
