The recent conclusion of “Art Dubai,” the 20th edition hosted in Madinat Jumeirah from May 14 to 17, 2026, marked a significant milestone in the emirate’s artistic landscape. This year, the event brought together over 25,000 visitors, showcasing the impressive evolution of Dubai from a regional hub to a global epicenter for art. Notably, a highlight of the event was the 100% sales achievement for the works featured in the stand of Emirati artist Rowda Al Mazrouei, drawing attention to the successful integration of both local and international artistic expressions.
Strong Sales and International Momentum
Throughout the four-day exhibition, participating galleries reported robust sales of artwork, fueled by an exceptional influx of collectors and cultural institutions from around the globe. Under the patronage of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and through strategic collaboration with Dubai’s Culture and Arts Authority, the event attracted a record attendance, marking the highest visitor rate in the fair’s history.
More than 200 local artists participated, and the event featured a wide range of collaborations with prominent institutions such as the Barjeel Art Foundation, Dubai Collections, the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, and the Sharjah Art Foundation. This cultural momentum has generated plans for ambitious future projects, including the anticipated opening of a Digital Art Museum in Dubai set for 2029, alongside the appointment of artist Thomas Doig to lead the A.R.M. children’s program in September 2026.
Commercial Appeal and Global Attraction
Data from the event confirmed the effective marketing strategies employed by participating booths; Taimur Grahan announced the complete sale of all works at the stand of Emirati artist Rowda Al Mazrouei within hours of the opening. The exhibition welcomed representatives from institutions across more than 20 countries, including the Netherlands, the UK, the USA, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Angola, Lebanon, Germany, South Africa, and South Korea. Notable attendees included the Zeitz MOCAA (Cape Town, South Africa), the Busan Museum of Art (South Korea), and the Museum of Modern Art (New York, USA). The list of prominent collectors featured individuals like Reem Al Ruby, Mohammed Afkhami, Elie Khouri, Sultan Saud Al Qasimi, Rajab Samdani, and Omar Al Qurg.
Wide praise came from industry leaders, with Benedetta Cion, the executive director of the group, stating that the record-breaking success reflects Dubai’s collaborative spirit and its growing stature on the global art map. Miliha Tabari and Mohammed Hafiz emphasized how the exhibition has, over its two-decade history, successfully positioned Middle Eastern art from the margins to the heart of the international scene, generating sales that have exceeded expectations and built on a shared legacy dating back to its inaugural edition.
International gallery owners acknowledged the strong purchasing power and investment awareness of Dubai’s collectors, with Franco Nuoro noting the market’s reputation for long-term investment since his first participation in 2014. Taimur Grahan reiterated the city’s exceptional vibrancy, underscoring the 100% sales record of Rowda Al Mazrouei’s works, achieved amid diverse collectors hailing from nations including France, Canada, Saudi Arabia, and the USA. The organizing committee has finalized the next edition’s dates to take place in Madinat Jumeirah from April 7 to 11, 2027.
