UAE and Canada Forge Dynamic Partnership in Tourism and Economy

The ongoing discussions between the UAE and Canada aim to enhance their partnership in tourism and the economy of the future. This collaboration seeks to capitalize on each country’s strengths, creating opportunities that benefit their economies and foster a deeper bilateral relationship. As the two nations explore synergies, the focus remains on innovative sectors such as clean energy, entrepreneurship, and tourism, positioning both as leaders in the evolving global economic landscape.

In a recent meeting, His Excellency Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, the UAE Minister of Economy and Tourism, highlighted that the relationship between the UAE and Canada serves as a model for strategic partnerships. He emphasized the importance of cooperation with Alberta, particularly in advanced economic sectors crucial for transitioning to an economy of the future. “Both countries share common ground in visions and strategies aimed at expansion and investment in these vital sectors,” he noted.

This dialogue took place during his meeting with Alberta Premier Danielle Smith at the Canadian-UAE Business Council (CUBC) roundtable held in Abu Dhabi. The discussions centered around developing the economic partnership, especially in mutual interest sectors such as tourism, entrepreneurship, and clean energy. “The meeting is a significant step toward exploring further opportunities and expanding horizons of cooperation, especially in vital economic sectors,” Al Marri remarked, underscoring the UAE’s role as a key economic partner for Canada in the region.

The two sides focused on enhancing economic relations and communication channels between the business communities of the UAE and Alberta. By doing so, they aim to uncover new business opportunities, given the diverse economic prospects in both markets. Additionally, discussions included providing facilitations and incentives for exporters and importers from both sides, contributing to sustained economic growth.

During the roundtable, Al Marri spotlighted promising economic opportunities in the UAE and Alberta, particularly in tourism, aviation, technology, and clean energy infrastructure. He asserted that these sectors are essential for boosting mutual economic cooperation, driving innovation, and promoting sustainability in both countries. He also touched upon the comprehensive development of the UAE’s economic legislation, which enhances the competitiveness of its business environment and reinforces its regional and global leadership.

Furthermore, Al Marri invited the Canadian business community to leverage the competitive economic climate in the UAE, which offers numerous investment opportunities. He stressed the UAE as a strategic gateway for expansion into the Middle East and North Africa. By July 2025, the number of Canadian commercial licenses operating in the UAE reached 14,676, a notable increase from the 12,321 licenses in July 2024, reflecting a growth rate of 19.11%.

From the Canadian side, Musabah Al Kaabi, CEO of ADNOC’s Exploration, Development, and Production sector, and co-chair of the Canadian-UAE Business Council, described the council as an effective platform for enhancing bilateral partnerships. He outlined their commitment to advancing collaboration in clean energy and hydrogen sectors, among others, aligning with shared aspirations for a sustainable, knowledge-based economy.
