New data from Expedia reveals that travel searches for TikTok-trending destinations have surged over 40% year-on-year. As social media platforms like TikTok continue to shape travel preferences, travelers are increasingly seeking inspiration from viral content to plan their next adventures. This trend indicates a shift toward experiential travel, where potential tourists are motivated by visual storytelling and authentic experiences that reflect what they see online.
The travel platform’s latest Air Hacks Report highlights five locations experiencing significant growth in search volume: Cape Town, South Africa (50% increase); Tunis, Tunisia (65% increase); Antalya, Turkey (45% increase); Hanoi, Vietnam (40% increase); and Malaga, Spain (40% increase).
Expedia has launched a TikTok-inspired travel guide designed to help travelers transform “social media inspiration into actual trips,” according to the company’s announcement from Dubai.

The report also notes that airfares have decreased by 11% year-on-year, with premium ticket prices dropping 2% compared to 2023, creating what Expedia describes as “an opportune time to ditch doomscrolling and start exploring.”
