Sharjah Police Highlights Dangers of Specific Medications

The Sharjah Police have taken a significant step in addressing the issue of drug misuse with their initiative titled “Police Sharjah Reveals the Other Face of Some Medications.” This program aims to educate the public about the potential dangers of misusing common pharmaceuticals, such as tramadol and Lyrica, which can lead to addiction if not used responsibly. By shifting their approach from mere warnings to direct engagement, the police aim to foster a culture of prevention before it’s too late.

Interactive Awareness Platform Launch

The General Command of Sharjah Police recently launched the platform “Journey of Awareness Against Drugs,” under the slogan “Protecting the Individual… Preserving the Community.” This initiative employs interactive technologies and digital simulations to raise awareness about the risks associated with drugs and psychoactive substances. The primary focus is on effectively communicating preventive messages, especially targeting students and young adults.

A Groundbreaking Approach to Education

Major Salem Al Mazrouei, Deputy Director of the Drug Prevention and Monitoring Department at Sharjah Police, emphasized that this platform signifies a transformative shift in awareness methodologies. By engaging participants in a realistic experience, the platform allows them to navigate decision-making scenarios rather than passively absorbing traditional messages. This participatory approach enhances understanding and fortifies youth against potential substance abuse.

Real-Life Experiences and Education

The platform guides participants through three interactive stages, starting with the creation of a virtual character. They then encounter life-like scenarios that may challenge today’s youth, culminating in learning about the manipulation tactics used by drug dealers and how to respond effectively. Through this educational journey, individuals can earn a completion certificate, symbolizing their engagement and awareness.

Highlighting Commonly Misused Medications

In addition to theoretical knowledge, the platform showcased models of medications commonly misused, particularly tramadol and Lyrica (pregabalin). It highlighted that utilizing these drugs outside of medical supervision may lead to physical and psychological dependence. Moreover, the initiative included information about other narcotics and psychoactive substances, such as Captagon, methamphetamine, cannabis, and Spice—detailing their forms, marketing strategies, and health impacts.

Empowering Communities through Knowledge

The initiative also displayed real examples of drug use paraphernalia, aiming to empower parents and community members to identify early signs of substance abuse. By boosting public knowledge, the program supports community partnerships in combating drug issues effectively. The launch of the platform was under the auspices of Lieutenant General Abdullah Mubarak bin Amer, the Chief of Sharjah Police, showcasing the leadership’s commitment to utilizing modern technologies in disseminating preventive awareness and enhancing societal security.

Through these proactive measures, Sharjah Police underscore that the fight against drugs begins not just with enforcement but with education. By nurturing public awareness, they affirm that prevention remains the most effective tool in safeguarding individuals and preserving community integrity.
