– A programme combining practical workshops and field visits

The Sharjah Public Libraries are welcoming the new academic year with an exciting programme featuring 24 events throughout September. This initiative aims to broaden learning opportunities beyond the classroom by offering children, young people, families, and various community groups the chance to gain knowledge through experience and participation. Activities include exploring fossils, hydroponics, programming, sustainability, translation, reading, music, writing, and arts.

Events will be evenly distributed across six libraries, with four activities hosted in each of Sharjah, Khorfakkan, Kalba, Al Dhaid, Dibba Al Hisn, and Wadi Al Helo. This arrangement ensures that knowledge experiences are accessible to the public in different cities and areas of the emirate, allowing children, youth, families, adults, and seniors to select programmes that align with their interests in reading, science, arts, technology, sustainability, and community engagement.

The library’s programme combines practical workshops, reading sessions, field visits, meetings, and family activities, reinforcing the library’s role as an extension of the educational environment and a space for continuous learning. It empowers community members to transform what they read and learn into skills and practical applications related to their interests and daily lives.

The programme kicks off with the workshop “Discovering the World of Translation” on 3 September, opening a gateway for participants to explore translation and its role in bridging languages and cultures. On 13 September, a workshop titled “Our Family Stories” will use storytelling to strengthen family and community ties.

On 27 September, the library will take its activities outdoors with the workshop “Journey to the Self – Naguib Mahfouz.” The programme concludes on 30 September with an event titled “Smile, You Are in Sharjah: A Community Adventure in the World of Sustainable Tourism,” held around the Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilization. Participants will learn about sustainable tourism concepts and the preservation of natural resources through interactive activities and group games.

Creativity and Exploration

The Khorfakkan Library will begin its events with a session dedicated to women titled “Breath and Serenity” on 2 September, followed by an outing to nature with the event “Sustainable World” on 15 September, which includes a field visit to the Khor Kalba Mangrove Centre to learn about efforts to protect marine environments and biodiversity.

The library’s programme balances learning and experience with the event “Make It with Love,” presented in English on 20 September in collaboration with “In Mind Café.” On 24 September, the library will host an author to celebrate their literary releases as part of the “Creative Pens” event in association with Dar Shams Publishing.

Kalba Library will start its month with youth through “The Kingdom of Anime” on 6 September, familiarising them with the world of animation. The library will then host a reading club on 10 September to discuss the book “From the Inner Noise” by author Mariam Al Jinibi.

For seniors, the library offers the programme “Screen of the Beautiful Past” on 16 September, in partnership with the Social Services Department, before concluding its monthly events with a digital skill experience in “Programming in the Dark” on 29 September.

Science and Dialogue

The Al Dhaid Library launched its September activities with the workshop “World of Fossils,” in collaboration with the Sharjah Natural History Museum, allowing participants to explore the fascinating realm of fossils and learn aspects of natural history.

On 10 September, the library will host the event “Open a Book… The Journey Begins,” transforming reading into a collective experience of dialogue and idea exchange. Children will also have a chance to discover music through the workshop “Our Little Melodies” on 20 September.

On 23 September, the library will host the “Mini Family Cooking Challenge” in the Tel Al Zaafaran Park, bringing children together with a family member to prepare a simple meal, enhancing cooperation, creativity, and sharing among family members.
