Sultan Bin Ahmed Unveils Human Potential Initiative at Forum

In a significant step toward enhancing human capital, His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmad Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and President of the University of Sharjah, witnessed the inauguration of the inaugural “Sharjah Forum for Investment in Humanity” today. This event, themed “Human and Heritage in Palestine,” took place at the Al-Razi Hall of the University of Sharjah, alongside distinguished guests including Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Chairwoman of the Sharjah Family and Community Council, and Her Highness Sheikha Hour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairwoman of the Sharjah Art Foundation.

Opening of the Forum

The proceedings began with the national anthem of the United Arab Emirates, followed by a speech from His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmad Al Qasimi, who expressed his delight in participating in the forum. He emphasized that it embodies the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, which prioritizes humanity as the central focus for every project and initiative.

He thanked Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi and her institutions for involving the University of Sharjah in this noble mission. His Highness noted that this collaboration highlights the essential role educational institutions play in humanitarian and developmental work, serving as the primary source of knowledge that transforms values into actionable programs and research into real-world solutions, addressing human issues within their communities.

Thematic Focus on Palestine

Sheikh Sultan highlighted that the forum’s first edition, themed “Human and Heritage in Palestine,” outlines the university’s mission in promoting the forum’s objectives. He emphasized that a people’s heritage is not merely a collection of historical artifacts ensconced in museums; instead, it represents a vibrant system of values, knowledge, and creativity that should be preserved and taught to new generations.

His Highness mentioned that the University of Sharjah aims to implement academic programs and research projects that focus on protecting and documenting Palestinian heritage, covering aspects from arts and crafts to historical, environmental, and social legacies. He called for field studies, student projects, and providing facilities for seminars, conferences, and cultural exhibitions that increase awareness of Palestine’s history and present it through a humanitarian lens.

Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher’s Remarks

Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi addressed the audience, stating, “I am pleased to be here with you at this esteemed institution, the University of Sharjah, which was established by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi to serve as a house of knowledge and aspiration.” She praised Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmad Al Qasimi for his leadership at the university and his unwavering support for initiatives that bolster the region’s humanitarian projects.

She challenged the students to consider how they represent their national identity and transform it into a legacy for future generations, emphasizing the urgent need for intellectual and compassionate engagement in today’s rapidly changing world.

Establishment of Palestine Studies Chair and Fund

Her Highness announced the creation of a Chair for Palestinian Studies at the university. She stated, “With the escalating humanitarian crises in Palestine, it is imperative that we preserve the Palestinian narrative.” This initiative aims to establish a permanent center dedicated to Palestinian studies, safeguarding its legacy and educating future generations on its historical significance.

Additionally, she introduced the “Palestine Heritage Fund,” designed to protect both the tangible and intangible aspects of Palestinian heritage through partnerships with Palestinian and global institutions. This fund will also provide scholarships for Palestinian students, particularly those displaced from Gaza, allowing them to continue their education and rebuild their futures in Sharjah.

A Platform for Dialogue and Collaboration

The forum seeks to foster strategic thinking in humanitarian efforts, promoting the development of resilient communities. It highlights the importance of empowering women and exchanging experiences to inform knowledge-building initiatives that impact both regional and global development practices.

A key feature of the forum was a panel discussion titled “Human and Heritage in Palestine,” moderated by Badr Jafar, CEO of Crescent Enterprises. This session provided a platform for experts to talk about the profound impacts of conflict on cultural heritage and identity.

Cultural Exhibitions and Future Directions

The forum also featured an artistic exhibition titled “I Had a Day to Be,” showcasing works by seven artists who explore the Palestinian narrative through themes of displacement and resistance. This artistic endeavor, inspired by the poetry of Mahmoud Darwish, aims to create a visual dialogue around the living memory of land and identity.

His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmad Al Qasimi and Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, along with other dignitaries, toured the exhibition, supporting not just discussions on humanitarian issues but also enriching cultural expressions reflecting the plight and resilience of the Palestinian people.
