Sharjah Chamber Seeks Stronger Economic Ties with Uganda and Jordan

Sharjah is stepping up its engagement with key international partners as the Sharjah Chamber explores new ways to strengthen trade, investment, and business cooperation with Uganda and Jordan. The latest meetings in the emirate highlighted growing economic ties, fresh investment opportunities, and a shared interest in building practical partnerships that support private-sector expansion and long-term development.

الشارقة 24 – وام:

The Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry held a series of high-level discussions on Sunday focused on expanding غرفة الشارقة تبحث تعزيز التعاون الاقتصادي مع أوغندا والأردن, as its leadership met with the Ugandan ambassador and the Jordanian consul general at the chamber’s headquarters.

During the meeting with His Excellency Zaki Nwomi Kpedi, Ambassador of the Republic of Uganda to the UAE, the two sides reviewed the steady progress in economic relations between Sharjah and Uganda. They noted that cooperation has advanced significantly in recent years, supported by joint efforts that have led to promising investment partnerships in several sectors.

The discussions also stressed the need to intensify collaboration and develop new initiatives that would deepen ties between the business communities in Sharjah and Uganda. Both sides underscored the importance of widening channels of communication and offering greater facilitation for investors seeking opportunities in both markets.

Abdullah Sultan Al Owais, Chairman of the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, expressed appreciation for the role of the Ugandan embassy in supporting the chamber’s work and in strengthening commercial and economic relations between the two business communities. He said Sharjah’s investment climate offers strong prospects for Ugandan companies looking to expand regionally and internationally, pointing to the emirate’s strategic location and advanced infrastructure as key advantages for business growth. He added that the chamber remains ready to provide all necessary support and services to help Ugandan investors enter regional markets through Sharjah.

For his part, Ambassador Kpedi outlined the preliminary programme for an upcoming Ugandan delegation visit to the UAE in October. The delegation will include senior officials, business leaders, and representatives of major Ugandan companies, with discussions expected to focus on new trade partnerships and broader investment prospects. The Sharjah Chamber welcomed the planned visit and said it was prepared to coordinate business meetings with representatives of the emirate’s private sector.

The Ugandan side also highlighted the exceptional rise in bilateral trade between the UAE and Uganda, which climbed from $600 million in 2018 to $4.7 billion. The figure reflects the depth of relations and the wide range of economic opportunities available to both sides. Uganda also praised the chamber’s leading role and its continued support for several important development projects, saying it hopes to benefit from the chamber’s economic expertise and experience to advance sustainable development at home.

Sharjah and Jordan review wider business cooperation

In a separate meeting, Al Owais met with Omar Al Otaum, Consul General of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan in Dubai and the Northern Emirates, to discuss ways of reinforcing economic ties and opening broader avenues for trade and investment cooperation.

During the meeting, the Jordanian consul general was introduced to the chamber’s integrated portfolio of services for companies and entrepreneurs. These include a range of innovative programmes and initiatives designed to support the business environment, streamline procedures, and encourage innovation and competitiveness.

Both sides discussed the importance of maintaining close coordination between the chamber and the Jordanian consulate in order to encourage the private sector in both countries to play a stronger role in shared economic development. They also explored the possibility of organising joint events and forums that would introduce Sharjah’s business community to Jordan’s investment opportunities, alongside bilateral business meetings between companies and economic institutions from both sides in sectors with competitive advantages. Such efforts, they said, could pave the way for successful commercial deals and help increase trade between Sharjah and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.

As part of this broader approach, the chamber emphasized that غرفة الشارقة تبحث تعزيز التعاون الاقتصادي مع أوغندا والأردن is not limited to diplomatic engagement, but reflects a practical effort to connect markets, support investors, and create more direct channels for business growth.

The meetings underlined Sharjah’s continued role as a regional platform for economic dialogue and partnership building, with officials on all sides signaling strong interest in turning shared ambitions into concrete business outcomes.
