The Sharjah Art Foundation Opens Studio Reservations in Al Hamriya
The Sharjah Art Foundation is excited to announce that it is now accepting applications for studio reservations in the Al Hamriya studios, specifically designed for artists and creative practitioners residing in the UAE. This initiative, part of the artist residency program and studio offerings, has a submission deadline of July 11th. This opportunity provides artists with the chance to utilize various multidisciplinary workspaces along the picturesque coastal area of Al Hamriya in Sharjah, fostering a supportive environment for artistic creation and creative practices.
Studio Offerings and Facilities
The available studios at Al Hamriya include a large studio measuring approximately 110 square meters, a medium studio of around 80 square meters, and four smaller studios, each about 32 square meters. Monthly rental fees are set at 2,500 AED for the large studio, 2,000 AED for the medium studio, and 1,000 AED for each small studio. The rental duration can extend up to three years, with the option for renewal upon review and approval by the Sharjah Art Foundation.
Shared Amenities and Environment
Renters in the Al Hamriya studios will also benefit from shared amenities, including two exhibition halls, a small kitchen, restrooms, and an outdoor garden space. The studios are located in a repurposed area of a former market, positioned near the Gulf coast, and have been redesigned to incorporate multifunctional spaces for production and display while preserving several original elements of the site.
Application Requirements
Applicants must be artists or creative practitioners living in the UAE and are required to submit samples of their work along with a CV that does not exceed two pages. This initiative is part of the wider commitment by the Sharjah Art Foundation to support the artistic community and cultivate a vibrant atmosphere for artistic exchange and collaboration.
A Space for Reflection and Dialogue
The architecture of the Al Hamriya studios blends modern and experimental design techniques, centered around an open courtyard adorned with sculptures and local plant arrangements. This setting serves as a tranquil space for contemplation and dialogue, further enriching the artistic experience for those involved. With the realization of this project, the Sharjah Art Foundation reinforces its dedication to the arts and the creative community.
