New School Hours for Fridays Start January 9

Starting January 9, 2026, the Ministry of Education has announced changes to school hours on Fridays for public schools, aligning with the new Friday prayer schedule. This modification aims to facilitate students’ religious obligations while maintaining an uninterrupted educational experience. In this article, we will explore the specifics of these changes and their implications for students and families.

New School Hours for Kindergarten and Primary Students

The newly established school hours for public kindergarten students will commence at 8:00 AM and conclude at 11:30 AM. For first-grade students, two different schedules will be implemented: classes may either begin at 7:10 AM and end at 10:30 AM or start at 8:00 AM and finish by 11:30 AM. This flexibility is designed to accommodate varying family needs while ensuring students adhere to their schedules.

Adjusted Timings for Older Students

The schedule for second and third-grade students will also vary by gender. Boys will attend school from 7:10 AM to 10:30 AM, while girls’ classes will run from 8:00 AM to 11:30 AM. This distinction aims to respect cultural traditions and provide appropriate timings for all students.

Impact on Private Schools

The Ministry of Education has called upon private schools to ensure that their Friday schedules do not extend beyond 11:30 AM. This measure aims to allow students the opportunity to fulfill their religious duties, reinforcing the importance of a balanced educational environment. By adhering to these timeframes, schools can support both academic progress and the observance of cultural practices.

The Importance of Friday in the Educational Schedule

Friday is regarded as a significant educational day, and the established attendance and dismissal policies will remain unchanged on this day. The adjustment in timing is meant to preserve the integrity of the academic calendar without compromising any classroom time. Furthermore, it reflects the Ministry’s commitment to fostering a flexible learning environment that respects religious practices and enhances family connections. The emphasis on Friday demonstrates the Ministry’s understanding of the integral role that religious values play in building the identity of the Emirati student, promoting a well-rounded and aware individual.
