Launch of a Report Exploring Growth Opportunities in Retail Between the UAE and India

In a significant event highlighting the growing economic cooperation between the UAE and India, a new report was launched that addresses growth opportunities in retail between the two nations. The report emphasizes the UAE’s importance as a leading platform for luxury retail, with projections that India’s retail market will reach $1.5 trillion by 2030. It aims to clarify the strategic opportunities available and the challenges faced by the sector to enhance trade relations.

Growth of the Retail Sector in the UAE

The UAE-India Business Council (UIBC-UC), in collaboration with Arthur D. Little, launched a strategic report titled “The Economic Corridor Between the UAE and India: From Access to Competitive Advantage – Growth Opportunities in the Retail and Consumer Goods Sectors.” The report was unveiled in the presence of Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, UAE Minister of State for Foreign Trade, and Dr. Deepak Mittal, Ambassador of India to the UAE.

During a ceremony held under the theme “Strength Lies in Resilience,” the UAE’s ability to withstand economic challenges was showcased, positioning it as a unique strategic partner for India. In this context, Faisal Koutikolon, Chairman of the council, stated that the next phase of economic cooperation will transcend the traditional concept of exporting, noting that the retail and consumer goods sectors are uniquely positioned to contribute to this transformation.

Integrated Growth Strategies

The report is based on diverse inputs from leading companies in retail, consumer goods, and fashion, reflecting their unique experiences and insights within the market context. It emphasizes the necessity for economic relations between the UAE and India to evolve from traditional channels to integrated partnerships driven by digital innovations and changes in supply chains.

The report also discusses the integration of the competitive advantages of both countries, with India offering a wide and diverse market, while the UAE boasts a luxury retail environment that meets the highest standards, enhancing growth opportunities in these sectors. The retail sector in India is expected to exceed $1.5 trillion, supported by the rapid growth of the middle class.

Recommendations for Success

The report indicates that success depends on operational execution efficiency, highlighting that companies focused on local models are the biggest winners. It outlines five strategic facts that must be considered to ensure success in cross-border operations. Among these facts is the necessity of treating the Indian market as a collection of specialized markets and the importance of adapting to market-specific nuances related to pricing and branding.

Providing clear recommendations for companies and decision-makers seeking to enhance growth in consumer trade across this vital economic corridor is one of the primary objectives of this report, reflecting a positive trend towards a bright future for retail partnerships between the UAE and India.
