Exploring Remote Learning in UAE Higher Education Institutions

The UAE’s Ministry of Higher Education has announced a temporary shift to remote learning across all higher education institutions from May 5 to May 8, 2026. This decision, effective from next Tuesday, aims to ensure the continuity of education under the current circumstances. This step is part of ongoing efforts to protect the health of students and faculty members while ensuring they receive the necessary higher education.

The ministry confirmed that clinical programs, laboratories, and in-person examinations requiring direct interaction are exempt from the remote learning system. Therefore, students in these programs will continue to receive traditional instruction, allowing them to effectively meet their academic development requirements.

Thus, remote learning in higher education institutions represents a temporary measure designed to protect public health while considering the individual needs of academic programs. It is important for each student to take the necessary steps to adapt to this new system during the remote learning period. The ministry is expected to continue evaluating the situation and providing necessary updates to students and faculty members.

Consequently, the transition to remote learning presents an opportunity to adopt innovative educational methods, enabling students to have a flexible and seamless learning experience despite current challenges. In this way, higher education institutions in the UAE continue to achieve their educational goals while ensuring everyone’s safety.
