Dubai Duty Free Records Unprecedented Half-Year Sales of 4.1 Billion Dirhams

The Dubai Duty-Free market has made headlines by achieving remarkable success, recording 4.1 billion dirhams in sales during the first half of 2025. This impressive figure marks a 5.34% year-on-year increase, surpassing last year’s record sales by 208.95 million dirhams. Such performance underscores Dubai Duty-Free’s pivotal role in global retail, bolstered by significant traveler numbers spurred by the Eid al-Fitr holiday and an early start to the summer travel season. The report highlights the continued growth and resilience of the market, making waves in the retail sector.

Strong Sales Performance Driven by Traveler Increase

The results for Dubai Duty-Free reveal a notable boost in sales during April, May, and the early part of June, linked to a surge in passenger traffic. The Eid al-Fitr celebrations and the early start of the summer travel season were crucial factors fueling this growth. Total sales from top-performing categories, including perfumes, tobacco products, gold, and confectionery, reached 744.24 million dirhams—an 18% contribution to the overall market revenue and a 5% increase from the same period last year.

Top-Selling Product Categories

Tobacco sales ranked second, achieving a year-on-year growth of 12.24% and totaling 439.91 million dirhams. Gold jewelry followed closely with sales of 416.90 million dirhams, reflecting a 6.14% growth and contributing 10.12% to overall revenue. Confectionery sales also stood out, reaching 412.52 million dirhams—an impressive growth of 62.70% compared to the previous year, accounting for 10% of total market revenue. The cosmetics sector experienced a solid 3.36% growth, garnering 201.51 million dirhams, representing 4.89% of overall revenue.

Regional Performance & Future Outlook

The key markets for passengers reported positive sales results, with Europe leading the increase at 16.89%. The Middle East followed with an 8.15% rise, while the Russian region enjoyed a 4.41% increase, and the Indian subcontinent registered a growth of 1.02%. These figures highlight the ongoing recovery in travel across various global destinations, signaling a robust outlook for the Dubai Duty-Free market.

Ramesh Kedeambi, the CEO of Dubai Duty-Free, expressed his enthusiasm about the record performance achieved in the first half of 2025. He stated, “We are pleased with this record performance, and as we await the final figures for traveler numbers in June 2025, we expect average spend per traveler to be higher compared to June of last year. This performance reaffirms Dubai’s solid position as a leading global travel hub.” He also expressed optimism for sustaining similar record results in the second half of the year, with preparations underway for the opening of three additional luxury stores in the A concourse of Dubai Airport Terminal 3.

Award Recognition and Future Goals

In addition to its sales achievements, Dubai Duty-Free recently won the award for “Best Duty-Free Shopping in the Middle East,” reflecting its ongoing commitment to excellence in the industry. With a target of 8 billion dirhams in sales by the end of 2025, the market shows no signs of slowing down. Notably, sales jumped by 12.5% in May alone, reaching 724.7 million dirhams, further indicating a trend of sustained growth and expanding consumer interest.
