Ras Al Khaimah Leader Inspires Students to Embrace Challenges

His Highness Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, a member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, recently visited Fuzhou University and various cultural and historical landmarks in Fujian Province, China. This visit was part of an academic and cultural initiative highlighting the significance of knowledge and communication among nations, along with the longstanding historical and trade ties between Ras Al Khaimah and China.

Strengthening Ties Between the UAE and China

During his address to the students and faculty members of Fuzhou University, His Highness emphasised the solidifying relationship between the United Arab Emirates and the People’s Republic of China. He urged the students to engage in lifelong learning, to lead with vision, and to leverage their knowledge and talents to build bridges of understanding among peoples. “Today, ideas, talents, and knowledge flow rapidly between our two nations,” he noted, expressing a welcoming stance towards partnerships with future leaders.

His Highness encouraged the students to view challenges as opportunities for growth, stating, “Knowledge grants power, but wisdom is only complete with values and good character. Cherish the pursuit of knowledge and look at challenges as chances to enhance your capabilities.”

A Cultural Exploration of Fuzhou

The visit included a tour of the historic and cultural site of Sanfang Qixiang, known for its architectural significance and preservation of traditional Chinese heritage. Additionally, His Highness visited the Cheng Ho Hall, which documents the voyages of the Chinese mariner and explorer Zheng He, underscoring the region’s historical role in international trade.

These explorations illuminated the deep cultural and commercial connections that have existed between Ras Al Khaimah and China for centuries. Archaeological discoveries from the emirate serve as tangible evidence of maritime trade routes linking southern China and Julphar, a historical trading port vital to the development of modern Ras Al Khaimah.

Engaging with Emirati Students in Guangzhou

While in Guangzhou, His Highness met with three Emirati students studying at various Chinese universities. The meeting was attended by Marium Al Shamsi, the Consul General of the UAE in Guangzhou. The students included Zayed Al Kalbani, attending Jinan University, along with Maha Al Ketbi and Sheikha Al Habsi, who are enrolled at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in Guangzhou. His Highness expressed his interest in their academic experiences and future aspirations, reinforcing the vital role of education in supporting the UAE’s comprehensive development efforts.

Historical Artefacts and Iconic Discoveries

Among the significant artefacts reviewed during the visit were pieces of Yuan Dynasty pottery dating back to the 13th century, previously highlighted by the Department of Antiquities and Museums in Ras Al Khaimah. These items affirm the region’s longstanding commercial exchanges via maritime Silk Road routes, which form a historical foundation for the burgeoning and deepening relationships between the UAE and China today.

A Purposeful Visit Concluding a Productive Week

This academic and cultural programme concluded a six-day working visit by His Highness to the People’s Republic of China, which included several cities across the Guangdong and Fujian provinces. The visit aimed to build upon existing economic and cultural ties, further expanding avenues for cooperation and partnership.
