Mandatory Signing of Remote Learning Code of Conduct for Private School Teachers in Abu Dhabi

In a move aimed at enhancing the quality of remote education, the Department of Education and Knowledge in Abu Dhabi has mandated that all teachers and staff in private schools sign the Remote Learning Code of Conduct. This code includes 14 commitments designed to improve the educational experience and ensure the well-being of both students and teachers. Teachers are required to adhere to a number of established practices to ensure the effective and proper utilization of digital education.

Teachers’ Commitments During Classes

The code stipulates that while delivering remote education, teachers must be visible via camera during all live sessions. Additionally, teachers are required to upload the lesson plan to the school’s Learning Management System at least 30 minutes before the start of each session. This obligation facilitates students’ preparation and ensures the continuity of the educational process.

Moreover, teachers are expected to use interactive tools such as polls and breakout room discussions at least once every 20 minutes to enhance interaction and participation among students. Furthermore, it is recommended to record each session to ensure accessibility later, taking care not to conduct classes from inappropriate backgrounds or locations, which reflects the professionalism necessary for remote teaching.

Well-Being of Teachers and Students

The Remote Learning Code of Conduct in Abu Dhabi includes important commitments related to the well-being of teachers and students. Teachers must conduct regular follow-ups with students and maintain individual tracking records to ensure no student falls behind. They are also required to adhere to the attendance response protocol, highlighting the importance of continuous communication with students and their parents.

One crucial point for teachers to observe is the prohibition of communication with students’ parents regarding routine academic matters outside of school hours. Additionally, synchronous teaching should not exceed three hours without a break, helping to reduce pressure on both students and teachers. Furthermore, teachers must report any concerns regarding workload to their direct supervisor and utilize the psychological and physical support available to them through the school and the Department of Education and Knowledge.

These initiatives are part of broader efforts aimed at improving educational quality and student well-being in Abu Dhabi, where teachers’ commitment to these standards significantly impacts learning outcomes. Adhering to the Remote Learning Code of Conduct is an important step towards creating a positive educational environment that supports all members of the school community.
