Focus on parliamentary coordination

Dr. Ali Rashid Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the Defence, Interior and Foreign Affairs Committee in the Federal National Council, met Datuk Jonathan bin Yasin, Chairman of the Special Committee on Security in the Malaysian Parliament, in Kuala Lumpur to discuss areas where the two committees can work more closely together.

The discussions highlighted practical ways to strengthen parliamentary ties, particularly through regular consultation, shared expertise and closer alignment on topics that fall within both committees’ mandates. The two sides also reviewed opportunities to build stronger institutional links between the two parliaments.

Broadening cooperation through parliamentary diplomacy

With Dr. Mubarak Saeed Al Dhaheri, the UAE ambassador to the Federation of Malaysia, in attendance, the meeting also addressed mechanisms for coordination during participation in regional and international parliamentary events. Both sides stressed the value of maintaining active channels of communication and making better use of parliamentary diplomacy to support mutual priorities.

That approach, they said, can help create a more effective platform for exchanging legislative experience and sharing best practices in areas of common interest. The talks underlined the importance of sustained engagement as part of broader efforts to expand التعاون البرلماني between the two countries.

Shared views on regional and global challenges

The meeting also covered developments across Asia, along with a range of regional and international issues of mutual concern. The lawmakers said the strategic relationship between the United Arab Emirates and Malaysia provides a strong foundation for deeper cooperation and supports wider efforts aimed at stability and security.

They noted that the fast-changing international environment makes it increasingly important for parliaments to work together more closely. In their view, البرلمان التعاون should be reinforced through joint action against terrorism, extremism and cross-border threats, while also helping counter hate speech and promote moderation, dialogue and coexistence.
