Knowledge and Human Development: Dubai’s Private Schools Evolve

The Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) in Dubai has released the academic calendar for private schools for the 2026-2027 academic year, in accordance with the school calendar issued by the UAE government. This schedule outlines the start and end dates of the academic year, along with the approved holidays, ensuring that schools fulfill the minimum required days of instruction.

Two Distinct Academic Tracks

According to the calendar reviewed by “Emarat Al Youm,” private schools in Dubai will follow two distinct academic tracks based on their starting dates. Schools that commence their academic year in September will begin classes on August 31. For these institutions, the mid-term break for those adhering to the Ministry of Education’s curriculum is scheduled for October 12, with students returning to studies on October 19.

Winter and Spring Breaks

The winter holiday for September-entry schools will begin on December 14, and students will return on January 4, 2027. Additionally, the spring break is slated to start on April 5, 2027, with classes resuming on April 12. The academic year for these schools will conclude on July 2, 2027, complying with the minimum requirement of 185 school days.

April-Entry Schools’ Schedule

In contrast, private schools that begin their academic year in April follow a different timeline. Classes for these institutions started on April 6 and will break for summer on July 6. Students will recommence their studies on August 31, which coincides with the start date for September-entry schools, creating a convergence point in Dubai’s private education landscape.

Holidays and End of Year for April-Entry Schools

For the April-entry schools, the winter vacation will also begin on December 14, with students returning on January 4, 2027. The conclusion of their academic year is slated between March 15 and March 31, 2027, ensuring compliance with a minimum of 182 days of instruction.

The structured approach to the academic calendar ensures that all private schools in Dubai adhere to government regulations while providing flexibility in their operational timelines.
