Art Dubais Global Influence on Contemporary and Digital Art

The 20th edition of Art Dubai, held at Madinat Jumeirah from May 15 to 17, showcased international participation that reflected the diverse global art scene and the growing presence of contemporary and digital art. This event underscores the importance of art in uniting different cultures and highlights the potential of Art Dubai to mirror the future of contemporary and digital art.

The Importance of Global Participation

Pedro Sera, founder and owner of Pedro Sera Gallery, emphasized the significance of maintaining support for the global art ecosystem amid ongoing challenges. “My participation in this current edition stems from the importance of continuing to support the global art scene,” Sera stated in an interview. He further noted that his gallery is keen on being present in Dubai to contribute to the cultural and artistic movement. According to him, Art Dubai serves as a global platform facilitating connections with artists, collectors, and cultural institutions worldwide. The gallery is currently studying the representation of several Emirati artists in the near future, given the evolving artistic level of the local cultural scene.

Diversity in Artistic Expression

At the Isabel Gallery booth, Kristina Vultava Marintiva presented a collection of works featuring artists from the UAE, Lebanon, Iran, and Iraq, emphasizing that the exhibition showcases the diversity of artistic schools and cultures. The booth featured works by Emirati artist Hassan Sharif, a pioneer of contemporary art in the UAE, as well as contributions from Lebanese artist Riad Yassine, who has participated in the Venice Biennale. Emirati artist Mohammed Qasim utilizes sound, light, and movement to transform intangible moments into visual pieces. Additionally, works from Iranian artist Fereydoun Aav and Iraqi artist Bassam Al-Shakir, whose artwork often focuses on concepts of reconstruction and resilience, were also displayed.

Innovations in Digital Art

Hind Aznar, General Director of Irregular Studio, remarked that the studio is participating this year with interactive works fully reliant on programming and digital codes. “Art Dubai has become an important platform for exploring the future of digital art in the region,” she stated. The exhibited works are designed to be part of homes and everyday spaces, allowing the audience to interact with them directly. Interest in digital art is rising globally, especially among younger generations.

Art at the Intersection of Science

The exhibition also featured artworks that blend art and science, such as a project by artist Siddhartha, who transforms scents into interactive visual language by analyzing the chemical particles of fragrances and converting them into digital forms. He shared that the project took two years of manual work using 3D design software, without any involvement of artificial intelligence, and he highlighted the development of nano-cards that retain scent even after being used thousands of times, enabling the audience to engage with the artwork both visually and sensually.

Participants confirmed that Art Dubai continues to reinforce its position as a global platform that merges art, culture, and technology, reflecting Dubai’s ability to attract outstanding international creative experiences and enhance cultural dialogue among peoples.
