How Mohammed Bin Rashid Transformed Books into Dream Pathways

The winners of the tenth edition of the Arab Reading Challenge in 2026 expressed their heartfelt gratitude to His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President of the UAE, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai. They acknowledged his vision in transforming books into bridges for dreams and declaring Dubai as a capital for celebrating creativity.

Celebrating Achievement and Dedication

In exclusive statements to Al Bayan following the awards ceremony in Dubai, the winners emphasized that their triumph went beyond simply receiving a title or prize—it marked the culmination of years of reading, dedication, and hard work.

A Testament to Perseverance

Palestinian student Ghazal Tayem, who secured second place in the competition, described her victory as immensely significant. She highlighted that it was the result of patience and numerous attempts to achieve a long-cherished dream. Ghazal dedicated her accomplishment to the entire Arab nation and urged everyone to embrace reading as a lifeline for nations and a means of elevation.

Reflecting on her experience in the challenge, Ghazal noted that the competition was not merely about reading; it instilled in her a deep understanding and the courage to engage with audiences confidently. She mentioned that many inspiring books impacted her character, with the Quran topping the list for its teachings on eloquence and life.

A Journey of Knowledge

Saudi student Ryan Al-Zakri expressed great pride in achieving third place in the Arab Reading Challenge. He embarked on this educational journey filled with lofty aspirations. Ryan dedicated his achievement to his supportive parents and his teacher, Ahmad Al-Jaser, whose encouragement helped nurture his love for reading. He also expressed his gratitude to the initiative’s founder, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, for creating a pioneering reading initiative that cultivates a promising generation of readers and thinkers.

The Spirit of Determination

Fakhri Mayas from Jordan, awarded for outstanding supervision, shared insights on the success behind the initiative. He emphasised that the key to its impact lies in the educational supervisor’s belief in its mission, treating it as a personal project rather than a mere job requirement. Mayas explained that this belief transforms initiatives into sustainable achievements that extend beyond the classroom.

He revealed efforts in his city to broaden the base of readers, such as establishing an electronic library and plans for a physical one, ensuring the challenge’s impact continues and knowledge remains accessible. This vision aligns with Sheikh Mohammed’s aim of fostering a sustainable reading culture in the Arab community that extends beyond the competition and into building new knowledge environments.

Overcoming Challenges to Achieve Excellence

Ramzi Bouraoui, director of Sidi Amer School in Tunisia, celebrated his school’s exceptional achievement as it won the title of the most distinguished school in the Arab world. He noted that despite facing geographical challenges in a rural mountainous area, the school turned these adversities into a success story through determination and hard work. The commitment to the Arab Reading Challenge enabled them to achieve first place, showcasing that even schools in remote areas can attain excellence.

Bouraoui expressed his overwhelming joy at being recognised in Dubai, considering it a significant honour for Tunisia. He conveyed that the accomplishment proves rural schools can compete and achieve high standards, and he hopes to continue this success and progress.
