In a heartrending plea for assistance, a 22-year-old Sudanese man named Hashil is facing an urgent battle against lymphoma. Currently undergoing chemotherapy treatment, he requires immunotherapy medications costing a staggering 34,764 dirhams, an amount that his financial situation makes insurmountable. His health is deteriorating, and with health insurance not covering his treatment costs, he is reaching out to generous individuals for help.
Hashil’s Journey with Illness
Hashil’s ordeal began when he experienced extreme fatigue and a noticeable decline in his health. This prompted him to seek emergency care at Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City in Abu Dhabi, where subsequent tests revealed the shocking diagnosis of lymphoma—news that shattered both his and his family’s world.
Immediate Medical Needs
Upon receiving medical attention at the hospital, Hashil’s doctor informed him that he was in an advanced stage of the disease, necessitating immediate treatment to control the illness and prevent further complications. A treatment plan was established, which includes undergoing chemotherapy sessions, immunotherapy through specific medications, and regular blood tests to monitor his health status and treatment response. The medical team has stressed the importance of consistent check-ups, including liver function tests and coagulation assessments, to ensure he can safely continue his treatment.
Financial Barriers
However, Hashil faces significant financial hurdles. As a private chauffeur earning a monthly salary of just 2,000 dirhams, he finds it impossible to cover the costs of the necessary treatments. Additionally, his health insurance does not cover his treatment expenses due to a lack of six months since the policy’s issuance, leaving him ineligible for financial relief programmes intended for patients in dire need.
Desperate Call for Help
“The required amount of 34,764 dirhams is beyond my financial capabilities,” Hashil shared. “I am deeply worried as my health continues to worsen, and I fear serious complications due to the delay in treatment.” This sense of anxiety and fear is compounded by the urgent advice from his doctors to commence treatment as soon as possible.
Despite his efforts to seek alternative solutions to secure the funds needed for his medication, Hashil’s attempts have yielded no results. He is now pleading for the kindness of others, stating, “All I wish for is to receive the treatment necessary to overcome this difficult phase. I hope that God and those with generous hearts will assist me in covering the costs, allowing me to regain my health and return to a normal life.”
In this time of distress, Hashil’s story highlights the critical importance of community support in healthcare, particularly for individuals caught in financial hardship while battling serious illnesses.
