Government Refutes Allegations of Prime Ministers Land Price Manipulation

The government has denied claims made by UAE businessman Khalaf Al Habtoor regarding purported intervention by the Prime Minister to inflate the price of land he intended to purchase in the North Coast from $10 million to $30 million. This statement comes amid rising questions about land acquisition processes and investment opportunities in Egypt.

Official Denouncement of Claims

Mohamed Al Homsani, the official spokesperson for the Prime Minister’s office, categorically denied the assertions made by Al Habtoor in a media interview. He emphasized that inquiries conducted with relevant government agencies responsible for land in the North Coast revealed no request from the businessman for purchasing land. Consequently, these allegations are entirely unfounded and fabricated. Al Homsani questioned, “Even if the businessman wished to acquire land from private citizens, why would the Prime Minister interfere in determining the price or any related matters?”

Clarification on Investment Regulations

The spokesperson reiterated that the procedures for acquiring land for investment in the North Coast, as well as other regions, are clearly defined and do not allow for interference by officials. “Egypt welcomes our Emirati brothers, both investors and non-investors,” he stated, underscoring the nation’s commitment to fostering a welcoming environment for foreign investment. Al Homsani added that Emirati investors have previously committed billions of dollars to diverse projects across Egypt, garnering unprecedented success and profits, as cited by the investors in their media interactions.

Broader Implications for Foreign Investment

This incident highlights the importance of transparent communication between government authorities and potential investors. Such clarifications from the government are crucial in maintaining trust and promoting a conducive atmosphere for economic growth. With ongoing efforts to boost foreign investment, particularly from the UAE, the government aims to assure investors of a stable and fair regulatory environment.

As Egypt continues to attract foreign investments, the swift denial of misleading claims serves to strengthen the credibility of the government in the eyes of investors. The assurances made by the Prime Minister’s office may enhance the willingness of international investors, including those from the UAE, to engage in lucrative opportunities in the country.
