Global Conference on Halal Industry and Sustainable Development Open for Research Submissions

Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, the Al Qasimia University is proud to announce its twelfth international conference titled “Halal Industry and Sustainable Development: Foundation, Governance, and Innovation.” This event is scheduled to take place on Wednesday and Thursday, April 14 and 15, 2027, at the university’s premises. Participants can join both in-person and virtually through the Zoom platform. The conference aims to bring together a select group of scholars, researchers, experts, and specialists from academic institutions, government entities, the private sector, and international organizations.

Significance of the Conference

Professor Awad Al-Khalaf, Director of Al Qasimia University, stated that this conference reflects the university’s commitment to addressing contemporary issues pertinent to humanity and society. By merging legitimate foundations with scientific research, the conference aims to engage with rapid global transformations. The theme “Halal Industry and Sustainable Development” underscores the necessity to enhance this system’s capability to adapt to accelerating changes based on the principles of governance, innovation, quality, and reliability.

Discussion Focus Areas

The conference will delve into various concepts surrounding the Halal industry, including its legal, historical, and ethical foundations, as well as the current scenarios, standards, and challenges in sectors such as food and pharmaceuticals. Additionally, it will address the impact of the digital environment, intellectual property rights, and the applications of artificial intelligence and Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies in documentation and governance. Other discussion points will include the Halal tourism and hospitality economy, media communications in building the Halal identity, institutional and international experiences, and the efforts made by the United Arab Emirates to develop the Halal industry and reinforce its regulatory and standardization framework.

Vision and Goals of the Conference

This conference envisions the Halal industry as a comprehensive civilizational and economic framework that extends beyond food and pharmaceuticals to finance, tourism, services, the creative economy, modern technologies, media, and cultural and knowledge products. It aims to align with Islamic law’s goals and sustainable development requirements while exploring transformations within this system driven by digitization, artificial intelligence, international trade, and changing patterns of production and consumption.

Call for Scholarly Contributions

Al Qasimia University invites researchers, experts, and specialists to submit their scientific contributions in relation to the conference’s themes. This initiative is designed to enrich the scholarly discussion surrounding the future and evolution of the Halal industry, as well as explore ways to enhance its contribution to sustainable development in light of global changes. Researchers are encouraged to submit abstracts by October 15, 2026, with notifications regarding accepted abstracts sent out by October 20, 2026. The final research papers are due by January 15, 2027, with the results of the research reviews and approvals announced on February 2, 2027.
