The documentary film “حقول الغد” (Fields of Tomorrow) presents Sharjah’s comprehensive experience in organic food production to the Arab audience. Produced by the Sharjah Broadcasting Authority, the film captures the transformation of developmental vision into a tangible system that blends sustainable agriculture, organic production, scientific innovation, and food security enhancement.
Broadcast on Sharjah TV, the film will be aired in two parts, each lasting 45 minutes. The first part will premiere on Friday, August 1st, at 2:15 PM, with repeats at 11 PM the same day and at 2:20 AM on Saturday. The second part is scheduled for Saturday, August 2nd, at 2:15 PM, again with reruns at 11 PM and at 2:20 AM on Sunday, in UAE time.
This documentary embodies the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, in establishing a complete food system based on organic production free from harmful chemicals and practices. It emphasizes the use of local resources and incorporates the latest technologies to enhance sustainability and product quality.
A Comprehensive System
In collaboration with the Sharjah Government Media Office, the Sharjah Department of Agriculture and Livestock, the Initiatives Implementation Authority, and the Khorfakkan Municipality, the Sharjah Broadcasting Authority has produced a thorough cinematic documentation of the stages involved in building this system and its comprehensive agricultural and livestock projects.
“حقول الغد” highlights the components of the emirate’s organic production system, beginning with the cultivation of wheat in a desert environment and covering the production of milk and beef, to the raising of Cypriot Shami goats in adherence to the highest organic standards. It also encompasses the production of poultry and honey, alongside modern greenhouses dedicated to growing organic fruits and vegetables.
The film takes viewers beyond the emirate’s borders, documenting the selection process of the best breeds and seeds that have contributed to the establishment of organic projects. The production team travels to Denmark to observe the import of a rare breed of cows known for producing A2-A2 milk, raised under stringent organic guidelines. This breed serves as the foundation for Al Mleiha Dairy Farm, which is officially recognised by the Guinness World Records as the largest of its kind globally, symbolising Sharjah’s ambition to develop locally-produced food of the highest quality.
Journeying further to Austria, the crew documents the selection and acquisition of heirloom seeds that are non-GMO, cultivated within the “Ghras” project funded by the “Etkaaf” Foundation. This initiative aims not only to produce organic vegetables and fruits for the local market but also fulfils an educational and training role by equipping students from the University of Al Dhaid with organic farming techniques.
Field Scenes
The film showcases the latest technologies employed in agriculture and organic production, alongside the scientific, administrative, and engineering efforts that have concretised Sharjah’s vision into real-world projects. It features interviews with officials, experts, and agricultural engineers who participated in various phases of planning and execution, and includes on-the-ground footage that captures the processes of planting, harvesting, and production, thereby illustrating the significant progress made by the emirate in constructing an inclusive organic food system that respects the environment while enhancing the quality of local products.
The Production Team
The production team includes renowned Canadian director Peter von Bockamer, with artistic production led by Ashraf Ali. The musical score was composed by the globally acclaimed composer Michael Richard Blouin, in a cooperative effort between Emirati company Sharq Media Production and Canada’s Gryphon Productions Ltd. The film’s production spanned approximately nine months, during which the team followed various stages of organic farming, harvesting, and production, while documenting the scientific, technical, and administrative efforts underpinning this comprehensive system.
