The Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq) has announced an extensive summer community programme featuring over 50 events taking place across various locations in the emirate over seven weeks throughout August and September. This initiative aims to promote physical activity, community health, educational activities for children, live performances, and experiences connected to nature and heritage.
Aligning with the Family Year 2026 Goals
This programme is part of Shurooq’s contribution to the objectives of “Family Year 2026,” designed to bring families together through shared activities. The initiative enhances communication among family members and encourages the adoption of active lifestyles, fostering children’s learning through curiosity, experience, and participation.
The programme’s extended duration and diverse locations offer families greater flexibility in participating. The regularity and variety of events are intended to encourage families to return to these venues, solidifying their role as integral to the community’s daily life while serving as spaces for connection, learning, and fitness.
Community Fitness Activities on the Waterfront
Both Al Hira Beach and Khorfakkan Beach will host a community programme consisting of 28 free physical activity sessions running from August 7 until September 19, on Fridays and Saturdays from 6 PM to 7 PM, supervised by qualified trainers. This initiative is designed to cater to various age groups and fitness levels, highlighting Shurooq’s commitment to activating the waterfronts as public spaces that promote community health and quality of life.
Four Community Running Events
As part of its sports agenda, Shurooq will launch four free evening running events at Al Qasba and the Al Majaz Waterfront, aimed at increasing community involvement in sports and offering a shared experience for families of all ages and fitness levels. The first event is scheduled to take place at Al Qasba on Saturday, August 15, followed by the second at Al Majaz Waterfront on August 22, with the series returning to Al Qasba on August 29 and concluding at Al Majaz Waterfront on September 5. All events will commence at 6 PM, and pre-registration via the authority’s website is required.
Exploration Summer Camp for Children
Al Qasba will also host an “Exploration Summer Camp” from August 10 to 27 for children aged 7 to 15, which will take place daily from 10 AM to 1 PM. The camp features three progressive tracks, starting with discovery and adventure, followed by science, technology, and innovation, and culminating in leadership and media skills with a focus on entrepreneurship. Additionally, a theatre performance of “Goldilocks and the Three Bears” will be held at Al Qasba from August 27 to 30, targeting families and children.
Family Nights at the Al Majaz Waterfront
The Al Majaz Waterfront will host a programme of 14 family nights over the seven weeks, featuring activities at the Water Park and the Children’s Fun House. These events will occur every Friday and Saturday, from August 7 to September 19, between 6 PM and 8 PM, showcasing live performances, interactive activities, and opportunities for families to gather and enjoy time together.
Learning through Curiosity and Experience
The programme will extend to Shurooq’s natural and archaeological sites, offering interactive educational experiences at Noor Island and Mleiha National Park. These activities are designed to engage children’s curiosity, observation, and experimentation, facilitating a deeper connection to their surrounding nature and heritage. Noor Island will feature a summer programme for children on Saturdays and Sundays until the end of September, from 5 PM to 7 PM, including three interactive stations introducing them to nature, arts, agriculture, and sustainability through practical activities. Mleiha National Park will provide families with insights into Sharjah’s natural and archaeological heritage through experiences exploring fossils, stargazing, visiting the museum, and learning about significant natural and archaeological sites in the UAE.
A Comprehensive Programme Across Sharjah’s Geography
The programme encapsulates Shurooq’s diverse geographic offerings, enhancing the summer experience for families across various coastal, mangrove, sandy dune, mountainous, and heritage areas. In the hospitality sector, Shurooq’s portfolio includes facilities such as Al Rafisah Lodge, Al Riahain Lodge, Al Badayer Oasis, and Najd Al Mqasar, providing families with accommodation options set within mangrove reserves and sandy dunes that resonate with the area’s unique character.
