Opening of Nominations for the “Targuman 2025” Award
The Sharjah Book Authority has announced the opening of nominations for the “Targuman 2025” Award, aimed at supporting and enhancing cultural and civilizational communication between peoples. The award seeks to solidify the position of Arabic literature on the global stage and encourage foreign publishers to translate distinguished Arabic works, thereby contributing to the enhancement of cultural dialogue and the exchange of ideas among different cultures.
Award Details
The total value of the award is 1.4 million dirhams, granted for the best foreign translation of an Arabic literary work. This award reflects the Sharjah Book Authority’s commitment to supporting translation as a means of fostering human communication and conveying Arab knowledge and creativity to the world. Nominations will be accepted until September 15, and the winners will be announced during the opening ceremony of the 44th Sharjah International Book Fair in November.
Nomination Criteria and Process
The “Targuman 2025” Award provides an opportunity for publishing houses that have completed the first approved foreign translation of a distinguished Arabic work in its first edition. The nomination process includes submitting four printed copies of the translated book and one copy of the original Arabic work, along with a summary of no more than 500 words that introduces the author, the content of the work, and its cultural significance. Documentation proving publishing and translation rights must also be attached.
Honoring Translators and Publishers
The award honors all parties involved in the translation process, starting with the translator, who will receive 100,000 dirhams, and the Arabic publishing houses that published the original work, which will receive 30% of the remaining amount. Meanwhile, 70% of the award value is allocated to foreign publishing houses. This distribution highlights the importance of partnership in the field of translation and raises awareness among readers about Arabic literature.
The “Targuman 2025” Award serves as an important platform for expanding the horizons of Arabic literature and enhancing understanding between cultures, contributing to the building of cultural bridges that advance humanity.
